I'm sure this was good for Asheville, but for 30 years this was a good clear station where I go in the mountains. Not that I really care since they don't play music that I like, but until 1997 they did.
In my motel room this year (a different room since my motel is now gone), nothing.
If you like classic rock, The Mountain plays it. How Alice in Chains is considered classic I don't know, but I'm going by what they said. I'm curious as to why Asheville would need two classic rock stations. I was able to hear The Planet where I was, so I guess The Mountain doesn't have to sound like that. Now WRZK this year for some reason, though.
Here's what they should have done. Not really, since The Planet plays it. But what an opportunity! Cumulus had an active rocker called The Dam in Florence SC that made The Planet look wimpy. The old WQNS tower could be seen from Lake Junaluska's dam. Now if WQNS had changed to the Cumulus format (unlikely since it's Clear Channel) there would have been a real reason to call it The Dam.
How sad that Haywood County loses yet another station. I heard WMXF once and, yes, they were doing Hannity along with WWNC. But most of the time I was there WPTL seemed to be off the air. It started when there was a storm but you'd think the problem could have been fixed.
