Asian American groups accuse Bill Handel of racism

Indeed, there is a long history in the USA of slavery and annexing territory from others, yet one rarely if ever hears jokes about this.
There is a long history in about every part of the world except Antarctica of slavery, seizure of territory and general mayhem. It is the history of the world.

That's the job of the call screener...
It is very possible that they want that kind of call so Handel can go over the basics regularly. If "lots of callers" are confused, so are lots of listeners and that is why they listen to the show. That is the price of not hiring an actual lawyer or trust / will expert to begin with.

d negotiated a price with the stand owner. She asked him to hold the dog she had picked while she did the rest of her shopping.

She came back to the stand, and the attendant handed her the dog... sliced and skinned in a wrapper.
As fresh as you can get it. 🤣😂
I mean what do you expect? It's like going to a poultry place and seeing the live chickens and rabbits and saying "I want this one". They're gonna assume you want it slaughtered and prepped.

I never understood why callers call in to get his advice when he himself describes it as "marginal". He's tipping you off that you need to see a professional yourself; this show is for entertainment only.

My point was that, yes, even in the capital city, dog has been a delicacy among some. The fact that a vendor would assume you wanted a dog only to eat confirms that.

Handel is really becoming like a worn doormat.

I don't advocate for an on air personality being "politically correct," but his schtick has gotten threadbare. John Koblyt after all of this time is still what I call "appointment radio." These days I turn on Handel's show and I end up turning it off because there is nothing. Bringing on Neil Saavedra or Wayne Resnick alongside seems to be a last ditch effort to keep Handel relevant in a weak way.

With a new PD soon in the wings, perhaps change could be happening in the new year.

ohn Koblyt after all of this time is still what I call "appointment radio."
Not to be rude but... how OLD are you?

Handel is OLD.
John is OLD.

You may correctly criticize Handel's schtick for getting old. Yet, did you hear John's 3 o'clock today? It was a musical montage of
Antonio Villaraigosa saying "um." Considering we've had two mayors since then, it isn't exactly crackling with modernity.

I mean, it's totally fine to criticize old for being old — but by golly, please be consistent in your criticism.

It was more of a salute to Villaraigosa seeking to be Governor of California in the next election cycle.

Exactly. Villaragosa joined the race in July. He's one of ten declared candidates---seven Democrats, two Republicans and one Green Party.

Eight others have declared interest and there are a handful of others (including developer and failed L.A. mayoral candidate Rick Caruso, Secretary of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra and Vice-President Kamala Harris, who are being discussed as possible.

John's not behind the times...he's just getting set up for a race that's likely to dominate headlines here in California in the coming weeks.

The level of political talent that we have here in California is breathtakingly awe-inspiring.

Flip, since I know anyone with a (D) after their name is a non-starter for you, here's what the GOP field looks like so far:

Republican Party

Declared

Publicly expressed interest

Potential

My take? Depending on the Democratic nominee, Dahle's got a shot.

My take? I refer you back to my original post.

Board rules and appropriate public decorum prevents me from commenting further.

Point of clarification for those reading:

California's primary is a top-two primary---meaning it's possible for two people from the same party to run against each other in the general. So I misspoke when I used the word "nominee".

That said, Dahle, a Republican, finished second in the primary, and went on to the general.

Getting back to the topic, which is Bill Handel's storied career as an occasional racist - someone above asked how old was Bill - I think maybe 73 or 74.

I can't speak for KFI, but they have a lot of Handel eggs in their basket, so I would not expect any knee jerk change. But I think they have options for that morning show - there is some excellent talent at KFI. Like I have mentioned (maybe too many times), Bill often wades into Bidenesq territory with his weekend Law Show - I have no idea how he does on the daily show as I stopped listening long ago, after the 2,278th time he was boorish (yes, Im a slow learner)

If Bill hangs it up or gets asked to leave, Tim Conway Jr would be great in mornings.

I don't think the soon-to-be Ex-VP would want the job, it seems like it would be a major come down from being in the position of being one step away from being President. But, then again, maybe she doesn't want to get off the public gravy train or out of the public spotlight. She could go sit on some corporation boards or teach at a university and make a lot more money and visit Biden at the Shady Rest Hotel in Hooterville.

The Harris team has been weighing options---and the governor's race in California in '26 is on that list:

(It's being widely reported, I chose CNN because it's the most thorough and not behind a paywall)

It's also not the comedown it appears, at least not through an historical lens.

When Richard Nixon lost the presidency to John F. Kennedy in 1960, Nixon ran for Governor of California in 1962. He lost to Jerry Brown's dad, then moved to New York, became a lawyer for Pepsi and started working donors. By '66, he was a candidate for president again, and in '68, won both the GOP nomination and the presidency.

[Sidebar: When VP Hubert Humphrey lost the presidency to Richard Nixon in 1968, he ran for his old U.S. Senate seat from Minnesota in 1970, and then a year later tried for (and lost) the Democratic Party nomination for president.]

What VP Harris has working against her following Nixon's model is that she is a decade older than Nixon was when he ran in those elections. If she runs for and wins governor of California in '26, she's automatically out of the '28 presidential race. I mean, she could turn around and run, but that move would kill her even in her home state.

That kicks the can to 2032, 2036 if a Democrat wins in '28. And then she's 72 years old and part of what she was supposed to change---70-and-80-something presidents.

So, in her case, Governor would likely either be end of the line, or possibly a return to the Senate.

She could go sit on some corporation boards or teach at a university and make a lot more money

And even though that's not publicly making the rounds of possibilities at the moment, that's always a potential move for anyone leaving high elective office. I'm sure UC Berkeley would love to have her teaching Law or Political Science.
