Asian American groups accuse Bill Handel of racism

Handel's been doing this for schtick for a long time. It was tedious 20 years ago and it's tedious today. I generally enjoy his show, but when he tries to be edgy and make some racist or otherwise offensive remark, it's just so, so bad. You can tell the groans and sighs from the cohosts and anchors are genuine. No one likes it, but he does it anyway.

He had the same problem a couple of years ago. That's why they started doing the blanket apology at the end of the show. I honestly don't know if they still do it, but Michelle Kube would give an apology to all the "pucker butts" who were offended by topics on the show that day.

Actually, he is quite proud and vocal about how lazy he is and why he gets a level of support and hand holding that no other host requires.

Didn't Handel always get a bit of "special" treatment at KFI? What are his ratings like?

Years ago, his twins were visiting the station one day. The kids were bothering the other DJ's and one of the DJ's told the kids to knock it off. Handel snapped back at the DJ, cursing and telling him not to talk to his kids. This exchange went out over the air. Result: Handel got suspended two weeks, while the other DJ ended up reassigned to another station (or fired outright, I forget which).

Also, John and Ken also seemed to get favored treatment, also because of ratings? Around the same time as the Handel incident, above, John Kobylt and John Ziegler got into a big argument over the war in Iraq. It ended with Ziegler's show timeslot being changed, Ziegler moved to a smaller office/studio, he was uninvited to the company picnic, etc....until he either left the station or was fired. Zigler set up a website afterwards with a bunch of rumors about other KFI hosts and staff (e.g. "Ken was gay," etc.)

Classic KFI. I remember those days. The other DJ was Jamie White from 98.7. I liked Ziegler back then. He went full-tilt libertarian/conservative later and became nigh-unlistenable.
