AT&T Phone Commercial (shrieking voice) Makes My Skin Crawl

It sounds like the guy is a girlie man who is about to die from an asthma attack. Very ugly sound - and annoying. Ads are annoying enough as they are without designing them to be particularly grating. ::)

The commercial I hate the most is the allstate commercial with the guy that has the bandages and scars on his face. I really hate the one he does where he's the GPS
system that never gets updated. If I were the driver of that car, I'd update that guy with a five knuckle shuffle right in the mouth! That guy is such a smart ass.

Looks to me like he's doing a bad Dennis Miller impersonation.

Hate to admit it, but I've grown to really like the "Mayhem" ads from Allstate. The GPS one actually had me laughing pretty hard. That said, Mrs. BRNout echoes donnyg's comments - so I guess it's just a matter of taste.

I still can't get over the Saturday Night Live-ish feel to all of those "E.D." drug ads! The ones with the spinning furniture and moving walls? Come on SNL - you've got to smash something out of the park on those!

I think I can deal with this guys shrieking voice then the woman with the raspy voiceovers on so ad's.I rather hear Ted Williams then this lady doing the voiceovers.

It's commercials like this one and the ones with the modern day hipster "Indie" nonsense (Ex: 2010 Happy Honda Days and Pomplamoose Hyundai ads aired during this past Christmas shopping season) only makes me cut back on watching television more. These ads are really self-defeating in the long run.

When I heard that ad for the first time, I was expecting it to be an ad for Advair or something ( http://www.advair.com/ )

The laugh really is annoying, and it makes me want to deliberately get a sprint phone, if that helps suggest that that ad is failing.

I think the at&t carpool guy's shrieky-girl laugh is supposed to be exaggerated to make his laugh stand out from the others, not be funny.
Then....ten seconds of silence later, the other people's phones catch up to his.
I think the timing of the ten seconds of silence, not "this guy has a funny laugh" was their point. :)

Also, the Mayhem Allstate ads are one of the few on tv that aren't "annoying." If he starts being filmed by a body of water, or adopts some kind of goofy mannerism, or driving in a wet-street city with no other cars or people anywhere, then they will have also jumped the shark though. :)

If that's the case, then they should have used a different laugh instead of that one in the ad.

I generally like the Mayhem Allstate ads. It's probably because the other non-Geico insurance ads are so bad that it makes the Mayhem ads look a lot better by comparison.
