The "we play everything" from Rap and Hip-Hop, Dance, Pop, Rock, etc. broad format at Star 94 doesn't seem to be working.

Kiss 104 had a big drop and I know why, it's the music! Hard to listen to more than 2 songs in a row without having to change stations.

I believe the drop at Kiss is due to the departure of their morning show.

Looks like WBIN found a person with a PPM again.

What's up with Power 96? Q99.7 isn't doing great, but they're doing consistently better than Power 96. Seems like a waste of a market-covering class Cx signal unless a CHR upturn is around the corner.

A little surprised that iHeart hasn't tried to bring back 96 Rock to go after River--maybe on 105.7 and not 96.1 if they're not super-confident. I'm seeing more and more 96 Rock car tags and bumper stickers around town lately. IMO a reborn 96 Rock could compete effectively with River if they went just a little harder but stuck with a gold format. No new rock.

And what's the deal with the 98.9 translator now? It's been MIA ever since 99X came back at 100.5.

I guess CHR is still having so issues but there still is a serious amount of money aimed at this demo. 96.1 is relatively cheap to run. If it doesn't make money iHeart will spin the format wheel. 97.1 took a lot of the 96.1 audience so that's not viable option. The 99X has the Auto folks covered. Atlanta has a bunch of hip-hop, rap and Urban AC so thats not an option. 98.5 has hot AC covered. Maybe a regular AC or Adult Pop Hits.

I AM NOT PREDICTING A FLIP!

What you're saying makes sense, but whether they would do it is questionable. CHR is one of iHeart's signature formats, which probably gives the station a little more rope. Also, they run that station so cheaply. They do have 2 live, local jocks, Ethan Cole and MiKeith, and both are very good.

Q99-7 beats out Power 96-1, but morning drive is really what lifts Q99-7 to good overall numbers in their demo. Outside of mornings, not so much. They do have one truly excellent jock, Yvonne Monet. (Bert is also excellent but not really a jock.) IMHO Q99-7 sounds top notch in terms of formatics. I can tell from listening that there is a lot of expertise and insight behind that station's sound. It's just that CHR is in a slump.

I listen to Power 96.1 more than Q99.7 mainly because I feel like Q puts on too many mix shows throughout the day. Not that I don’t like mix shows but I prefer to hear the songs as they would normally be played and not meshed together. These need to be isolated to certain times of the day or week and not spread throughout the day. I like AT40 and the iHeart Radio Countdown on Sundays. Q would never pick these up if Power dropped off.

Never say never. 98.5 picked up the Dailah show after CC now iHeart blew up Peach - Lite. AT 40 would move if Cumulus could make money. Does the iHeart countdown air on any non iHeart stations?

It's all about the money.

Power 96.1 is not KIIS-FM or Z100 and never will be. I think AC or Adult Hits should go on 105.7 and see how well it does. Someone needs to compete with B98.5 - I think that will be interesting to see.

I don’t believe so. It doesn’t air on some iHeart CHRs. AT40 does but typically with smaller radio companies. Not the big ones. AT40 doesn’t air on one iHeart CHR that I know of and that is Q102 in Philly. Not sure why that is. They don’t even play On-Air with Ryan Seacrest.

105.7 gets a lion's share of the agency Hispanic buys. I doubt iHeart would give that up.

You are correct. 105.7 is run very cheaply and gets on virtually every Hispanic buy.

105.7 does not have anywhere near the signal to compete with B98.5. But 105.7’s footprint is perfect for covering the market’s Hispanic population.

Yeah I wanted to say 105.7 because it was the “safer” signal. In a dream-case scenario 96.1 would be obviously the better signal. But one can only dream. Ya think iHM will really flip 96.1?? Heck no.

A decent case could be made to flip 96.1 to one of those two formats.

Their last major market English-language AC launch, in Dallas, has proven to be highly successful. Granted, that market did not have an incumbent Mainstream AC.

There are few if any instances of an iHM Mainstream AC performing poorly in a PPM market. All seem to perform well if not incredibly well.

It wasn’t a flip, per se, but iHeart also segued WMTX in Tampa to an 80s-heavy AC format several years ago (from Hot AC) with success while retaining the “Mix” brand.
