Atlanta Video Airchecks 1991 WAPW Domino WFOX Randy & Spiff

Man, that brings back so many good memories of my days doing mid-days at Power99. Working with all that equipment. I remember needing a "phone jammer" to screen calls for us, because the calls came in just like that 24/7. The phone lines were always busy. In the video, does anybody know who Domino's "phone jammer" is? Mine was "satan.'

Satan was without a doubt the strangest person on the planet but a cool dude. I hope there's no video of me doing 10p-2a because there's probably some shenanigans happening in the background.

Awesome airchecks of Domino and Randy & Spiff.

Domino left Power 99 to do evenings at WPLJ in New York, but they toned him down too much. But he was great on Power 99. At some point, he went to Kiss in Dallas.

When he voicetracked a shift for WMAX/The 80's Channel in Atlanta--I guess that was around 2000--he just didn't have it.

Roddy, was Domino at Power 99 twice?

This video was from 1991 at WAPW and the video I have of him from WPLJ was from 1990...I thought he was smokin' when he was at WPLJ..

Some of the WPLJ video is up on YouTube also (some weasel without permission put it up)..unless he was a lot more up that night than usual, he was doing the typical Domino act at WPLJ...

After Power 99 he did go to KHKS in Dallas, then KIIS-FM in Los Angeles, and back to KHKS in Dallas, then after years at KHKS to KKDL/Dallas (wasn't that great of a station), then a Spanish rimshot in Dallas, KKDA/Dallas last year, and these days he's at WOCL in Orlando doing afternoons.

George, I wasn't living in either NY or Atlanta when Domino was at WPLJ or WAPW. When I heard him on WPLJ, I was visiting New York. It's quite possible that he was cooking in the early days, and they later toned him down.

When WRQX in Washington flipped from CHR to AC around 1992 or 1993, Domino made an in-studio visit on the final Friday morning of the CHR format. I don't know why except possibly he knew the jock, who called himself Danny Wright (not the Danny Wright who went on to have a syndicated country show). Wright let Domino intro some of the songs and on that morning, Domino was definitely cooking.

Such a mistake when POWER switched formats to 99X. Yes, at the time it worked and
everything was great FOR ABOUT 6 YEARS.................then the bottom fell out. Looking
back from 2010, it was a bad idea.

If they had stuck with the Power they would probably in the top 3 today........instead of #20.

Ditto to all the others around the country that dropped the CHR/DANCE format in favor
of Hip-Hop fodder. They all used to be #1, #2, #3........today they are lucky to be in the top 10
for their markets. WBBM-Chicago, KKFR-Phoenix, WPOW-Miami, KPWR-L.A., KMEL-San Francisco,
KUBE-Seattle................. www.arbirton.com
