Atlanta's Z105.7 to Expand Reach and Simulcast on 96.7

That's interesting because on my radio, 96.7 is still simulcasting with 105.7.
What's really happened here is that WJZA filed its license to cover for its new 96.5 translator in Decatur on Friday. That's likely what the other poster heard.

Well, that's good to know. I thought maybe my radio was too old and was picking up last week's programming.

WJZA's 101.1 translator's antenna is very close to Decatur. Why would they want another translator in Decatur, or would they move it?

The 101.1 translator is directional. 96.5 is not. That’s probably why they wanted the new translator.
Other way around. But if you can get a free translator in a filing window why wouldn't you. In theory they could feed 101.1 off another signal and debut a new format on 1310/96.5 or sell off one or plenty of other possibilities.

Could've sworn they had directionalize 101.1 because of an interference complaint from WLJA out of Ellijay.

Apparently, 96.5 is slightly directional, but, looking at the two signal contours, 96.5 covers a lot more area than 101.1, at least on paper. Not having been to Atlanta in 20 years, I couldn’t tell you how well either does in the real world, though.

If you're using Radio-Locator's map it is VERY VERY, wrong for W243EE. The 96.5 translator has to protect co-channel translators in Marietta and Winder plus the full power 96.7 and another 96.7 translator near Doraville. Hence it's real world coverage is closer to this: https://fccdata.org/?lang=en&facid=201628

The 101.1 translator has a decent signal from downtown Atlanta to almost Athens. Unbelievable for a translator. I live about 18 miles from Athens and 101.1 comes in very clear without interruptions. If you look at the map, WLJA out of Ellijay looks like it was originally directional to protect WROQ , (100k) which used to have its tower closer to Anderson, SC (on the SC/GA border). But they have since moved closer to Greenville. So, the 101.1 translator (250 watts @ 955’) has nothing to fight with it on the right side of Atlanta. Strange thing is that the translator has a COL of Winder, GA and the tower is right where the Atlanta & Decatur city limits join. The coverage map shows that the signal doesn't even reach Winder (even the 40 DBu fringe).

Yes, my bad, I was on an old GE superadio analog...

The 96.5 signal is abysmal, I rode up Roswell Rd in Buckhead, overpowered by the hispanic station on 96.5 from Gwinnett, 96.5 is barely audible in Morningside even???

The translator with the best signal appears to be 97.9.

I need to get me a GE Superadio. I have the Radio Shack Optimus knockoff which isn't as good but isn't too shabby.
