Audio: 98.7 Kiss-FM's Final Day and 1050 ESPN's Transition To 98.7 ESPN

Let's use this thread to share and distribute any audio recorded over the next several hours.

Here's a batch of clips that I've recorded.

WEPN 12 Noon legal ID ("In 12 hours..."):

WRKS 3:33 PM - Felix Hernandez commenting on how his Rhythm Revue "survived three radio stations":

WNJE-AM 1040 of Flemington, NJ got mentioned in the WEPN-AM 1050 legal. How does that not interfere with KYW-AM 1060 of Philadelphia? ???

Good idea! What a way to start this thread on the final days of "Kiss-FM". Last night, I recorded the last shows on that station including Mike Shannon, Bugsy, DJ Red Alert, some all-night dance mixes until 4:30 AM when I was still sleeping while I was still recording that show during after hours along with a bunch of others.

I started recording the final weekend since 6 AM Saturday morning when I began recording the last Saturday edition of "Rhythm Revue", I used reel-to-reel tapes recorded at 1 7/8 IPS and it doesn't sound good when it sounded a lot like AM radio. I used TuneIn app for recording airchecks, but I have almost all them are lining up to post airchecks of the final weekend of WRKS' "Kiss-FM" later this week. In the meantime, here is Lenny Green doing his final "Kissing After Dark" show from Thursday night. This was his last show before he goes to WBLS tomorrow with the "Quiet Storm". I used to listened to that show during many home visits, but I recorded music off the radio on so many cassette tapes that I had in my personal collection. I missed recording music on tape used during Lenny Green's "Kissing After Dark", but I still missed that show a lot. Here it is in 2 parts.

And then 2 days later, I started recording the final Saturday edition of the "Rhythm Revue" show with Felix Hernandez. I started listening to that show back around 1999 or 2000 when it was on WTJM's "Jammin' 105" every Saturday morning and again on Sunday night when it was a "Jammin' Oldies" station, I used to taped those. After "Jammin' 105" flipped to an urban format as "Power 105", the show moved to WBGO for a few years and went over to "Kiss-FM" back around 2005 or 2006 until the very end. I hope he'll still be around on another station, could be on Live365 or something like that. I have the entire 4 hours of the Saturday edition of "Rhythm Revue", so here it is. I'll come back later and post the last Sunday edition.

Felix Hernandez show Rhythm Revue continues on Saturdays (as it's done through all of its forays on commercial radio - WTJM, WRKS) on WBGO-FM-88.3 Newark, NJ. Currently airs from 10am-2pm - may stay the same or possibly change now that he's off of KissFM.

Meanwhile...when "Moody's Mood For Love" played on Kiss around 5:30 pm on Sun. 4/29, it sent me looking for what's become known as Frankie Crocker's closing theme. Here's the cleanest copy I could find on YouTube:

More memories from YouTube: KissFM Mastermixes along with WBLS + WKTU mixes - primarily from the early 1980s
plus some Frankie Crocker clips, too.
Of course every time you play one video, different new selections appear - have some fun reminiscing:

I been listening during the day on my iphone app. Very sad WRKS has been streaming online off and on for years I never really got a chance to enjoy the station. This brings back memories when we lost V100 here in Los Angeles a few years back.

Remember last year when WQQQ's "Q103" in Sharon, CT pulled the plug on its AC format and went over to WSHU Public Radio, they had a farewell morning show on that station beginning at 6 AM until the station died at 10 AM. The host was Joe Loverro and Marie Castagna along with guests including the staff and manager of the station before the change took place. I have this aircheck from last year and I already posted on the HV board.

As for WRKS, Only 2 hours left until the station would say in the words of Porky Pig "Th-th-that's all folks!"

Only one more show left for "Kiss-FM" will be the "Week In Review" for the last time I'm recording this. After the show is over, it's done! I'll post the entire last show soon.

A live version of "The Week In Review" is airing now 10pm-Midnight ET on KISSFM 98.7.

Bob Slade with Bob Pickett, Charles Etheridge III "The Cut Man" and Peter Noel "The Flame Thrower" are hosting with other guests in studio.

On WBLS 107.5, Caribbean Fever with Dahved Levy is on from 8pm-Midnight.

The two stations only simulcasted from the announcement on Thu. morning 4/26/12 at 10am ET until Fri. evening 4/27/12 at 7pm ET.
At that time both stations went into (pretty much) their regularly scheduled specialty programming for the weekend with a few tweaks - mostly on KissFM.

The last song played was Brothers can work it out or brothers we can work it out. I was listening to it on line and before the song ended they cut the stream so I hear the switch. I should have listened on radio . Anyway the stream is now dead on the WRKS Kiss Fm Web Site. RIP WRKS.

Fairly seamless...went to a short montage of ESPN talking heads in interviews/promos over the last few days saying how great it is to be on FM and be heard, yadda yadda...Stephen A. Smith with a short intro/explanation followed by an 8 - 10 minute monologue on the Knicks loss to the Miami Heat on Saturday in Game 1 of their playoff series. Stephen A. is on until 2am ET.

ESPN Deportes on WRKS HD2
ESPN News on WRKS HD3

1050 AM on air feed a few seconds ahead of the 98.7 FM on air feed (likely due to the built in 8 second FM HD processing delay)

Correction on the Last song played after the week in Review said goodby:
