August 24/25, 2009 FM Tropo event AR, OK, MO, etc. into Ontario, Canada.

Found this on the internet awhile back so I decided to post it now since it's the last day of the year.
A DX'er located in Burnt River, Ontario has recieved a large number of FM radio stations (via Tropo) received from Arkansas, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. A list of stations can be seen by clicking on this link - also includes some recordings: http://www.wtfda.info/showthread.php?p=9817 Aug 24-25 2009 Es (er, Tropo), WTFDA Forums, August 28, 2009.

I live in the Sudbury, Ontario area and I caught a number of FM signals as well but don't have time to list them all here. One of the stations I caught was KTXY 106.9 (Y107) out of Columbia/Jefferson City, Missouri by matching the signal with their online streem - sure enough it was them! My computer creates a lot of interference while being online and was surprised to receive Missouri right on my pocket-sized Grundig G8 Traveller II on the morning of August 25, 2009. This was exactly the same day CIGM-FM Sudbury dropped their Chinese music stunt format and launched a CHR/Top 40 format as Hot 93.5 at 12:00 noon ET.

I bet this was one of the biggest Tropo FM DX events of 2009?

I would like to wish everyone at Radio-Info.com a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  :)
Take care

That was a huge opening! You guys must have been on the deep fringe of the duct because I was getting the same stations, but in Southern Michigan. Oklahoma to Ontario has to be over 800 miles!

I don't have time to share every single station I got in this opening, but I will share some stats from the opening.

# of new stations- 33 (15 on 8/24- 18 on 8/25)
New tropo distance record- 106.3 KPHR Ortonville, MN (639 miles)
3 stations over 600 miles
States covered- 6 (OH, IA, MO, IA, MN, AR)

I saw reports of guys in Ohio and Ontario getting Oklahoma. I tried for it, but it didn't happen for me.

This was not only probably the biggest tropo event of the year, but was particularly remarkable considering how far north the path extended, and the fact that these paths were all over land.

Another impressive tropo event was documented on the WTFDA boards in October, between Portugal and the Cape Verde Islands. Distances reportedly around 1700 miles. http://www.wtfda.info/showthread.php?t=3711

Welcome aboard, Lee.

My wife and I have lived up in Sudbury, while working on a TV series production. Last spring, I briefly picked up and positively ID'd, Memphis Tennessee's WQOX on 88.5. The signal came over my car radio, as I was returning from a laundry run....

Other then that, Sudbury was quite sparse for me. Besides North Bay, Elliot Lake and Parry Sound, the odd signal making it over from Michigan was the only bit of FM excitement....
