B92 flips the switch to 92.5 THE BOX "IS HIP HOP"

Poor Greenville needs a hip-hop choice so bad. 107.3 Jamz sounds horrible. I can't tell if they're Urban or Urban AC with Tom Joyner and Michael Baisden. HOT 98.1 sounds just as bad too! It's like a station of wanna be hip jocks that read liners about the artist they play (ex sister station 95.5 The Beat/ATL).

I remember growing up in Greenville when 107.3 JAMZ used to be the hip-hop heavyweight. I remember I had talked to one of the ppl over there a few years back and asked why did they stop playing the hip hop and he told me that they wanted to try something different. Personally I think Entercom should change B93.7 into hip hop to shut NOT 98.1 down. How you keep calling yourself "THE NEW HOT 98.1" when you been around for almost a decade. Cox Radio stations suck big time.

Why change 93.7 over the more niche 93.3 who is constantly pretty much last and doesn't have as much mainstream appeal?

98.1 is not really even an urban station...it's a rhythmic CHR that shares much more audience with 93.7...a lot of the people I see listening to it are white kids. It can't really be in the same category as Jamz. Of course it sounds bad, it's Cox....does anything they have besides news talk ever sound any good?

Yea I see what you saying about B93.7 and they should definitely considered putting an urban station on 93.3 if possible, but the Upstate has been without a Mainstream Urban station for far too long. I know Charlotte's POWER98 (WPEG) covers the areas east of Greenville but I think the market is big enough to support its own station.

I went back to my stomping grounds of Chucktown dis weekend and gotta chance to listen to both 92.5 and 93.3. Listening to THE BOX the music is on point. After 6pm on Friday it was all music no jocks until 8pm on Saturday. Thats when a mixshows came on, but Im not sure it was live. Yesterday was the launch of "Set It Off Sundays" at the Kush Lounge with all of the Box jocks. Don't know if it was a live broadcast since I left at 4pm. I didn't hear any other club commercials neither. Hopefully they aren't charging more than Z93 for ads.

Listening to Z93 over the weeekend was pretty funny. They are running drops against 92.5 like crazy. I heard drops like "Charleston Big Station" and "Charelston's Real Hip-Hop". The war is on. Music wise Z93 does pretty well with new music, but 92.5 is now up on it too. However, both stations were playing the same songs. One thing I don't like about Z93 is letting callers go live on the air. Being from Charleston we African Americans tend to speak geechie or gullah which tends to sound Jamaican to outta towners. I've been in Atlanta since 1996 and the laungauge is very strong in the Lowcountry to me. Problem with that is Z93 lets listeners call in live requesting songs they've just played and giving shoutouts thats 1-2 minutes long. Z93's mixshows were horrible too.

Yea Z93 is getting up on their game I like that both stations are going at each other because it makes the competition even better and keeps everyone on their toes to see what their going to do next. I see what you saying about the callers calling in. Charleston is known as Geechie City and Z93 definitely lets the locals be heard on the radio. I think 92.5 THE BOX has a more big city sound, I just hope they stay around way longer than the other stations that have tried to go up against "Z" because Z93 has become a brand in the Charleston Area. But im sure with the moves THE BOX is making this is going to be a long and insteresting street battle.

THE BOX finally got their website up!!

Nice so far, but B92 is still mentioned in certain parts of the website. Looks like Jay Tek got plenty of mixshows lined up, especially on weekends. On Sundays I would've thought CoCo Brotha's Spirit of Hip-Hop would've been a good fit. I forgot he's already on in Chucktown on GOSPEL 106.3. So far so good, i'm tuned in.

DJ D-Nyce now holds down the 10pm-2am shift! Good Look!!

That is a good look and they have DJ Accabee holding down the overnight shift. If im not mistaking he used to be on Z93.. ???

Ya'll should check out the Thundakat DJ's right now they going in!! The mix is sounding pretty legit right now ;D

Gentleman George is still on in Macon,GA at Blazin 92.3 in da afternoons. Hmmmm, voicetracking already. Still, THE BOX is still hot and I'm a fan of Jay Tek.

I think Jay Tek has got something up his sleeve. I think he teasing us right now, but I hope whoever takes the 6-10PM position whether it be Gentleman George (without the voicetracking) or someone else, makes it a show that will take THE BOX to a new level. Im not a fan of voicetracking I think it takes away from the interaction with the listeners and they have no countdown yet either ??? so that's why I'm think Jay Tek has got something better for THE BOX

Apex does alot of voicetracking. Their sister station Star 99.7 is voicetracked or syndicated during every daypart except PM Drive and a couple features on the weekends. I wouldn't expect much difference from The Box. Even though I still think Box is going to whip Z's butt.
