B98.5 nixes Steve and Vikki Show but will Vikki stay on solo?

Somebody help me out here. How can this be a "money move" by Cox, if they're going to pay S&V thru the end of their contracts plus pay somebody to fill their airtime? ???

Contracts up in 4 months and the person filling the airtime is their producer so they already had that salary. Long-term not a huge money loss.

This is kind of a surprise. I thought they were doing OK. I guess when the numbers for the rest of the day are doing better then your morning show...

But remember...B98.5 is an office station. The morning show ends at 9 AM, just as the business day is starting.

The thing I find odd is that Steve is given the boot...but Vikki is given the opprotunity to stay. It does appear that it is a move to keep the pair apart...but I highly doubt Vikki will take it, because she would have to do a music intensive show, and I doubt she would be happy with that setup.

I do see Kelly and Alpha coming back. They left Cox on good terms. What I also wonder is why Steve and Vikki were not allowed to stay on for the remainder of the deal, when Kelly and Alpha were allowed to stay on. I suspect an immediate need to improve ratings may be behind this, and not fear of anything un-FCC.

As for Steve and Vikki returning to Star 94 or any future format on a Lincoln Financial owned 94.1...forget it! The lawsuit Lincoln Financial filed against the pair when they started promoting B98.5 has burned bridges. Clear Channels desire to save money precludes them from any CC-format, The Groove or otherwise. They will have to wait out until either 92.9 or 100.5 flips to an compatable format. And given B's monster numbers under PPM, another AC will come to town.

Especially if B98.5 keeps eyeing Groove 105.7 with more more rhythmic stuff and leaving the softer end of AC alone. I STILL think ATL has an "environmental/office" void since the demise of Peach/Lite and then WJZZ, PPM for smooth jazz notwithstanding.

But who is going to go out on that limb? I don't see CBS doing it with Z90Dave....nor Cumulus with Rock100.5. Lincoln could go soft AC with Star, but not full-on environmental.

I just heard from someone deep inside Cox Radio that Vicki Locke has cleared out her office. Bob Neil is now planning on moving Kate McCarthy from The NEW 97.1 The River over B98.5 to handle mornings. Jordan Graye will follow her in mid days. The NEW 97.1 The River has a new afternoon personality ready to start Thursday named Graye McKatherine. According to my source, she is originally from Texas and loves horses.

Thanks for plagiarizing my other post or are we of one mind when it comes to Kate.

ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ....oh I'm sorry, what was the question?

I saw a commercial night before last on Fox 5 WAGA-TV and it had Steve and Vikki and the B98.5 logo having to do with American Idol. It was on during the late night news re-run they do overnight. Guess they didn't want to redo the commercial or someone forgot to pull the ad and replace it. I've met Steve aka Philip on several occasions and Vikki a few times and they couldn't have been nicer. I like their brand of humor and I know it's not for everyone. I personally would rather have less music and more talk on a morning show because of the tight rotation all the stations seem to use. They run your favorite song into the ground and then you hate that song.
