Ok, after listening to 104.5 for a significant amount of time I have come to the following conclusion:
It's on auto pilot, programmed out of San Antonio by the female doing the voice over work, until they can hire a real PD.
Tell me when was the last time you heard 2 female lead vocal "rock" tunes back to back in Philly? Ever? Never? Exactly. How about 3 in one music set? Check this out...
This is what I heard between 5:30 and 6:00...very troubling.
The Space Between Dave Matthews Band - I like this song.
Laid James - uh, what? Fine, maybe as an "oh wow" once in a blue, but not in heavy rotation.
Pain Three Days Grace - fine, I don't dig it, but I guess it's within the right genre
I Think I'm Paranoid Garbage - uh what part 2?
My Immortal Evanescence - fine, but 2 chicks back to back?
Mr. Jones Counting Crows - uh, what part 3? Hi, we're just like BEN, ALICE, MIX, MAX, THE POINT and B101.
Steady As She Goes Raconteurs - in the correct genre
Zombie Cranberries - 3rd chick lead in one music set?
One more thing - anyone notice that of the "ROCK" songs, the majority are ballads or slower tracks?
That's The Point / Mix / Max / Alice all rolled into one. Man, I hope this is just filler till they can hire someone, and that someone understands how to program a station that can offer the ROCK listener a variety MMR can't...or, maybe they aren't targeting the Male 25-44 and they are going after the younger end of B101?
You know, they could have just plugged DC101 in and this thing would be beating MMR right off the bat.
A little bit like the Jersey Shore's G Rock, only even heavier on the ballads if that's possible.
DMB is cool, if a little on the Hot AC side with some of their songs.
James is a really good band - shame that all that's ever played from them is lackluster "Laid", both here and on G Rock.
3DG is alright, still in the Top 20. I'll take them over Nickelback or Hinder any day.
Good song by Garbage. For whatever reason it seems to see less rotation than many other songs from them.
Evanescence? This song is nursing home cheese, and I don't think it ever even went for adds on Alternative. AC and Hot AC can have it.
Counting Crows? Another song that's more Hot AC these days.
Raconteurs are cool, but this song has been played to death.
Cranberries aren't bad either.
This won't satisfy the Y-Rock or Skin fans, and it won't even make the Y-100 fans happy. This is more like the return of Max, with the occasional Korn or Chevelle song thrown in. Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions, but this isn't going to lead to any better ratings than Rumba. Hopefully they will get their bearings when the PD, MD and jocks come aboard. BTW, go to
http://www.radio1045.com and offer suggestions as to what you would like to hear. They're soliciting for input, but whether or not it makes an impact remains to be seen.
By the way, I looked at DC101's playlist, and really didn't notice much of a difference at all from Radio 104.5. Another soft Alternative that leans predominantly on the hits and doesn't offer much in the way of surprises.
