Barry Scott arrested in police altercation as he DJ-ed a party

http://www.provincetownbanner.com/article/news_article/_/49280/News/7/19/2007

WODS' Barry Scott (Lost 45s) was arrested while DJ-ing a house party in Provincetown. The article
says that the police responded three times to live music; Scott shut the music off and explained
why to the crowd. A police officer claims that Scott had said, "“The Provincetown Police are here to ruin our night. We hate them.”
There are conflicting reports as to whether or not Scott said what he did, and how he got facial
lacerations (ran into window frame, or pushed around by police?)
File under "Ain't nothin' but a house party"---with Dis-Dis-Dis-Disco Barry Scott (to use one of his
on-air bumpers)

good ideas, since Barry's in the slammer maybe we can all help him with next week's playlist...

Barry Scott's Playlist Sunday July 22, 2007

1)That's The Night The Lights Went Out in P-Town - Barry Scott & The Jailbirds

2)There's A Riot Goin' On - The Beach Boys
(Student Demonstration Time)

3)Just Walkin' In The Rain - The Prisonaires
(famous band from the late 50s early 60s; a governor let them out of jail to sing that song to Elvis, probably at the Governor's mansion)

COMMENT ON THE P-TOWN BUST:
Sounds like a bad scene from a gay Bikini Beach movie

Didn't Little Walter have a run-in with the police during a party he DJ-ed? They wanted him to play a certain song but he refused; made the papers.

WATD's owner Ed Perry had a run in with the police a few years ago as well. I believe this was regarding a news story though.

This is pretty hard to imagine. I worked at WBOS years ago and brought Barry over when he was looking for a new station for "Lost 45s". He's about the most mild mannered guy I can think of.

"Folsom Prison Blues"-Johnny Cash
"Police On My Back"- Equals (or Clash)
"Hawaii 5-0"-Ventures

Darn...I compiled a list of about thirty good lawbreaker songs a few years back, but, alas, it's misplaced.

How about--

"Life In Prison" The Byrds
"Robbery, Assault and Battery" Genesis
"Funky Judge" J. Geils

"Student Demonstration Time" totally ruined the otherwise underrated "Surfs Up" album, btw.

Up Barry's "street cred", perhaps, but I agree with Inventor 989, I've known Barry since at least 1989 and he's a verrrrry reserved fellow. Sometimes see him in the clubs - indeed, I was with Wayne Wadhams (Fifth Estate "Ding Dong the Witch Is Dead") and we bumped into Barry at a club - "Barry, I have a lost 45 with me!") - he doesn't strike fear in anyone, but he is a perfect target for Police who want to do a little bashing, isn't he?

Barry, sue 'em! Physical violence for a little complaint? Police Brutality in P-Town!

FROM THE LINK ABOVE:
Scott was treated at the Provincetown jail for a laceration to his nose, as well as excessive bleeding from the inside of his nose. After he made bail and was released, Scott and Richardson drove to Boston where they live and went to the emergency room at Massachusetts General Hospital, where Scott was treated for the nose laceration, contusions and abrasions on his leg, a cut to his right foot and a possible broken toe. X-rays later showed the toe to be only bruised, according to Richardson.

Oink, Oink

Since I know Barry personally (and he's a VERY soft spoken guy), after reading the newsaper article, I would think that the Song PIGGIES by The Beatles would be the most approriate here!

Since it was a noise complaint, Joe's Garage by Frank Zappa

Turn it down ...Turn it down!
I have children sleeping here!
Don't you boys know any NICE songs?

When you're hot you're hot - jerry reed? no...well I tried....

Either way this arrest should up Barry's street cred

not a bad choice. It's funny, I was just listening to "Amos Moses" 'cause the new local show on WWZN used it as bumper music.

the anti-police/anti-authoritarian idea is a staple of punk rock and hardcore. The list could be endless but my favorite would have to be "Police Story" by Black Flag.

Yes Ed was arrested on a BS charge by the pigs in the next town over covering a story.

Little Walter was canned from the Town Slime in Malden ( the owner wasn't dealing drugs there, but his kid was so they got to keep the liquor license) because a bunch of drunk cops fresh from an all day bender after fellow pig was put where he belonged wanted Walter to play some crappy song that didn't fit into the type of night he was doing.

Barry Scott has a spotless reputation. I'd put my money on the P-Town pigs being in the wrong here.

Coming soon to a judicial jurisdiction near you:

"Heah yee! Heah yee! The co't's in session, the co't's in session
now heah come da judge, heah come da judge..."

And all this from a Function At The Junction. ;D

They wanted him to play some Irish standard... "Oh, Danny Boy" or something like that... when he was doing his usual 1950's/early 60's Rock'n'Roll/Doo-Wop thing.

Like i said, crappy song not fitting the format.

But when the bar/entertainment complex has a certain reputation, and your kid is dealing drugs out of there
(arrested eventually but overlooked for years) heaven forbid you back your employee over the drunken cops who are going to be sitting on Route 99 having a field day with your patrons.
