Bassist Carol Kaye Turning Down R&R Hall Of Fame Award

She makes an interesting point. She says the musicians worked together as a team, not as individual performers. She also said she didn't like calling them "the wrecking crew." Two very good points. The Country Music Hall of Fame has a rotating category for musicians that is given out once every third year. Over the years they inducted most of "The A Team" that played on many country hits in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Last year, they inducted guitar legend James Burton. But James was more of a soloist and innovator than Carol Kaye.

There is also a Musicians Hall of Fame that is specifically for them. The Musicians Hall of Fame inducted the Wrecking Crew in their first class (along with Nashville's A Team and several other house bands of that era). No individual members of those bands have ever been inducted. However, they have inducted the individual members of The Beatles, because they each had solo careers. Carol Kaye was not a solo artist.

There is a great guitar solo on Glen Campbell's "Wichita Lineman" but I've never been clear on whether she or Glen played it. I've seen versions where both could be true. The notes are so low that I assume it's a bass.

Carol is an amazing person, she used to offer Skype bass lessons and it looks like she still might offer guitar lessons:
really!

I saw a documentary on The Wrecking Crew as part of a class I took several years ago, and I was fascinated by how good they all were, and I was struck by how nice and personable they all seemed, to top it off.

Isn't she one of the only members still alive?
