Battle of TV Providers over Free HD for Life

I had to update this as I found this too funny.

A day or so ago I finally got my last statement from DirecTV. In the same day's mail I got another envelope from DirecTV with a solicitation stating "it's not too late to come back" - the offer being $29.95 for 12 months of service.

The wizards still don't get it. They can't figure out that their stupid 12 month discount does not equal HD free for life. And they wonder how come they are losing existing subscribers as they defect to lower cost alternatives.

The brainiacs over at DirecTV missed the boat on this one. If they had dropped the HD fee for dissatisfied existing customers, something they are already doing for *new* customers, I would have likely stayed with them since I was somewhat satisfied with their service, although it was pretty costly for the amount of channels I watched. Now, I watch HDTV for much less than I paid them for regular service and they now have one less customer.

It will be a cold and clammy day in hell before I go back to them. With all the choices out there why get ripped off?

Standard operating procedure, my friend... Cable and satellite operators will always bombard your mailbox once you cut ties with them and sign up with another service.

Actually, I feel happy for me and the fact I no longer have a hole in my wallet that said DirecTV ;D

I find it amazing that the marketing "wizards" at both DISH and DirecTV continue to waste loads of direct mail advertising at me since:

I dumped DISH after fulfilling my contract (which they didn't agree) and told them to shove their early disconnect penalty. You'd think they would have put me on some sort of a DO NOT CONTACT list since I stiffed them financially but nooooooooo. I guess desperation wins out in the end.

I disconnected DirecTV due strictly on cost. I was watching about five services on a regular basis and $70/month was too much to pay for those. They could have easily saved me as a customer by discounting a couple of bucks but did they try? No. Now they send me all sorts of "come back" offers at discounted rates but will I? No.

While I only received one offer since I disconnected I plan on a letter writing campaign to tell their top brass that had they actually dropped the $10/month HD fee I would have remained a customer. While it may or may not be read I thought a nice letter to these folks would be a way to let off some stream and to not expect me until hell freezes over and is turned into a ice skating rink ;D
