BCA launches XX rated radio in San Diego

BCA, the owners of Mighty 1090, have taken their sports signal to the FM side of the house. Stay tuned.
______________

Smart move. I saw all the second guessing here about music formats,
when anyone familiar with BCA understands they have a serious
null in Eastern SD county. This is a great move to shore up their
coverage.

With all due respoect BCA did a good job of leading everyone on with the disco-rock they were stunting with.

And, kind of cruel, when you think of all the oldies fans out there who might have been getting thier hopes up.
IMHO.

G-dawg, it is their station. They operate it. They can do anything the want with it ...
______________

Yes.

And your point would be?

Chris is right. 1090 is currently leading the market in
local direct buys. It only makes sense to extend that
reach into a full-coverage situation. The AM coverage
in El Cajon/Lakeside/Alpine etc. was abysmal. However
the AM has a huge Northern reach that makes it San
Diego's best regional signal. I've heard it clear as a bell
in Seattle, San Francisco, and Portland.

The FM will give them access to cume, previously unavailable,
as well as the already discussed fringe areas for their AM.
Now they need a real morning show. Dull and Listless, I mean
Scott and BR are better suited for a Charger talk segment or
a scrub fill-in gig, they are not major performers. It's too
bad Steve Mason went to KMPC, he is an exceptionial talent.

But I agree, someone with a good signal should consider Oldies,
or a form of 60's/70's hits. It can work, but will require
actual talent, marketing muscle, and focused music. Maybe..
a Mexican FM frequency...

Under 50kw KPTK Seattle???

Absolutely. My PD in LA was on air on 1090 XEPRS and they got lots of calls from the Portland area. KPTK is very directional away from XEPRS, which they protect. XEPRS sends a 200 kw lobe at Portland.

DAVID, he said he can get it "clear as a bell" in SEATTLE!! I was NOT addressing The Mighty 1090 reception in Portland, Oregon or Portland, Maine!
Thanks

Re: Seattle????

Actually it should have read Eugene, Portland, &
San Francisco. By the way, Super Radio fan nit-picker,
how many other SD stations can make that claim?.

Thanks and the answer is zero as XETRA 690 is probably stepped on by CBU Vancouver, BC in Oregon and I don't think KFMB's 50kw night signal does well there either. I can think of no other stations that would do as well as 1090. So no harm, no foul, thanks for the clarification. I tend to be a nit-picker when something as blatant as your original claim is made, so I am glad you cleared that up!
Have a good night, Magic

Re: Thanks

I can sometimes hear 1090 in Chicago

on the Internet.

He said Portland, San francisco and Seattle. In the deep nulls of the KING, it was easy, at least in the past, to get XEPRS in the fringes of the seattle metro.

Picked up the oh so Mighty 690 in Juneau, AK very clear, no hint of any Vancouver radio.

RIP Fabulous 690 - listened to it through Dec-Jan in San Carlos, Sonora and enjoyed it a lot. 1090 Sports XPRS comes in super strong in Sonora.
