Behold! NBCUniversal's New Logo (And Yes, The Company's Name Is Now One Word.)

The Comcast brass held a closed circuit town hall meeting for the newly united NBCUniversal/Comcast employees.

And they also unveiled a new logo for NBCUniversal (and yes, that's the company's name is spelled now - as one word.).

Here's a copy of the memo they sent to all employees today.

Burke allayed any fears about the NBC doing away with its iconic peacock logo (prompted by the sudden appearance of the new corporate credo around the building), saying that it would be "a part of NBC and CNBC and MSNBC for years to come."

WOW! What a dynamic new logo! I wonder which 3 minutes of the last big meeting they spent on that one?

Amazing in this day and age how two failing companies can merge and re-invent themselves into an industry leader. I can hardly wait. Based on that earlier "racier for ratings" statement maybe not in my lifetime. NBC is currently 4th out of 4 and Comcast has the worst public image of any ISP since AOL.

I'm thinking there's a lot of work to do.

That's the most compelling NBC logo since the Big N that they ripped off accidentally borrowed from the Nebraska ETV Network in 1976. ;D

Deja vu Sears/KMart all over again?

Amazing -- people get paid to type words in pretty fonts and call it a logo. I clearly got into the wrong business.

I think I read the NBC logo itself will be the same, this is just for the corporate stuff

Correct. In my initial post, I quoted the article in which NBCUniversal President Steve Burke said that.

What does this mean for production and distribution? Will the names change? Will there be a new byline for the Universal Media Studios tag (the current byline reads A DIVISION OF NBC-UNIVERSAL)? And what will NBC-Universal Television Distribution become?

At the least, NBCUniversal will be a single name, with other identifiers remaining the same.

So, in other words, 61 years of the best, and most recognizable, network TV logo is pretty much gone? For this? Just damn.

I never thought any major network logo overhaul would ever replace what Nickelodeon pulled off last year. Bravo, NBCPU.
