Ben "Cooter" Jones speaks out against "Dukes Of Hazzard" movie.

Nothing new there, I remember when he made those same kind of comments when Warner Brothers and the producers were in the planning stages for the theatrical version last year. To me, it sound like a little bit of bitterness but I can also understand where he's coming from with the content of the material. As a Dukes fan since I was a baby, I'm hold judgement until I see the film for myself, after watching the trailer...it doesn't look too bad.
Edited by ShawnHill on 07/14/05 08:22 PM.

Good for Cooter!

Granted the TV series wasn't exactly "high brow" material, however it was something the whole family could watch back in the day. It was dumb, but wholesome. You gotta respect that.

The movie looks like complete and utter garbage. Futher proof that Hollywood has officially "jumped the shark". Anybody that goes and sees that movie should be bludgeoned to death with a crochet mallet.

I wonder what John Schiender,Tom Wopat and Catherine Bach have to say about their characters being virtually trashed to shreds. I don't know how Jessica Simpson's song "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'" got in there to start with but the nearly 40 year old version by Nancy Sinatra is far better and more superior than Jessica basically caterwauling through the whole thing. And please don't get started about Willie Nelson and him being in that video with her. Utter nonsense to say the least.

I agree wholeheartedly..although I wonder how long it might take to be "bludgeoned" with one of those "crochet" sticks they use for sewing..(think you meant croquet-That's where the mallet is..)

Yeah, I thought singers were supposed to sing, not whisper breathlessly. Nancy Sinatra's original version is still the best.

It looks like ol' Cooter is taking his comments to CNN Headline News' "Showbiz Tonight"(July 15th) and he must be really upset that this movie ever got made and wants fans and especially kids to avoid this PG13-rated remake when it comes out August 5th.

I wouldn't want to see it anyways. I bet that it will belong in the 2 for $11.00 DVD bins at Wal-Mart before Christmas. That is what happens to bad movies. Cooter is right. Sorrell Booke(Boss Hogg) and Denver Pyle(Uncle Jesse) are rolling in their graves at this mess.

I bet that the actors who played Coy and Vance Duke on the T.V. show during the 1982-1983 season would have been better. I wonder what happened to them??

Don't know but I give them (Byron Cherry, Christopher Mayer) credit for trying to make something out of an impossible situation..Tom Wopat and John Schneider basically said the same thing in a special on the Dukes a while back on CMT. It seems to me they could have been given a couple more episodes later in the show to team up with Bo and Luke..Once Bo and Luke returned it was like Coy and Vance never existed..
Edited by TimL on 07/16/05 05:35 AM.

The main fact also was that Tom Wopat and John Schneider left their show due to wanting more money and that they were replaced by Byron and Christopher which resulted in the show plummeting in the ratings in the 1982-1983 season. After Tom and John came back in 1983 the ratings came back up but it wasn't the top 10 show it was before. Remember the show was in the top 10 for 3 straight seasons(1979-1980,1980-1981(when it finished 2nd behind Dallas),and 1981-1982). Now if Tom and John had stayed and they added Byron and Christopher in there as their cousins the ratings would have probably stayed the same and the show would have lasted past 1985.

I think the characters' names oddly ended up on the Saturday morning cartoon version of Dukes, when Bo and Luke came back to the real series.

If you watch the episodes with Byron and Christopher you can see they really were fish out of water and really just two actors who were trying to catch a break. They had an impossible task of trying to get into a show where the cast chemistry was the main reason that it worked and it was almost painful to watch the lack of chemistry between them and the rest of the cast. Watching it now I almost feel sorry for them.

As far as what Ben Jones said-good for him! I'm far from a prude but there needs to be a lot more decent family fare these days that we can allow our kids to watch and enjoy, not more soft core porn laced with bad language. That was never what the show was about and I for one wish that they would have left it to live on in reruns and on DVD's in peace and not ruin its' memory. I certainly won't be using the free ticket that came with the season 3 DVD's.

At least the General Lee looks the same. Just like with Battlestar Galactica on Sci-Fi and the Star Wars prequels I'll wait until I see the full production before I make any judgements. Yes, I plan on plunking down 8 bucks to see this. I just want to know when the action figures are coming. I still have my 3 3/4" Mego Bo Luke action figure. I'm looking for the remaining figures and the General Lee to complete the collection.
______________
