Bernie Ward, The Next Birdman of Alcatraz?

gameon said:
Savage and Owens had cubicles side by side at ABC in SF in the mid-90's. They almost killed each other.

It wasn't just Owens. Jim Eason despised Savage. I think it was Eason who started calling him "the Savage Wiener." And politics had nothing to do with it - Eason was just as conservative as Savage. Apparently Michael's personality does not endear him to his co-workers.

Thats not the point Kenny. You make the assertion that Bernie's listeners will convert to Savage. they are poles apart and it will not happen. Not to mention they occupy different time slots. im not questioning savages talent or whether or not he has the chops to make it in the biz.

No, I think you're missing the point. Most people listen to talkradio for the entertainment value, not to hear a reinforcement of their own beliefs. I happen to like listening to Michael Savage myself, even though his politics are for the most part reprehensible, he's obnoxious personally (from what the people at KGO/KSFO have said), and I wish all his advertisers would quit. But there is no denying that he's a great talkshow host.

I'm surprised. I think Savage is constantly way too over the top in the way that J. Paul Emerson was (another Kenny favorite). I don't listen to talk radio to reinforce my beliefs either. I like talk hosts that challenge those beliefs...but I like them articulate, and at least somewhat grounded in reality without crossing the border into "hate" talk. Yes - I know that phrase has been thrown around by liberals to label everything they disagree with. But I think the label fits The Wiener.

I've defended Limbaugh in the past - he's a great spokesperson for his cause, very articulate, very entertaining, and you can tell that he doesn't take himself too seriously. Jim Eason was good, and I've liked Lee Rodgers in the past (haven't tuned him in recently).

Savage - forget it.

Lee Rodgers is the man. Consistently funny, well-read, well informed, just a really entertaining guy to listen to. And I totally disagree with most of what he says but I love him anyway. Lee rocks!

Absolutely! When Rodgers decides to uh..."savage" some political figure or bureaucrat (meaning verbally trash that person), it is rapid-fire and often amazingly articulate...almost a thing of art. I've often wondered if he's written them ahead of time, and is just really good at reading a script without seeming to.

Also - if you remember back when he was on KGO - nobody could "talk-up" the musical intro to the KGO jingle better than Lee...he would have been a great 60s era Top 40 jock.

RE: LEE ROGERS.....YES, HE PREPS A LOT. HE'S DAMN GOOD THOUGH.

WHEN I WAS AT KGO AND LEE WAS DOING 7-10 PM HE WAS IN THERE EVERY MORNING AT 10 AM.

HE'S ALSO A VERY FUNNY GUY ON AND OFF THE AIR. HE'S NOT MY POLITICAL CUP OF TEA BUT I'VE ALWAYS LIKED HIM BOTH OFF AND ON.
