Best AC in Greenville/Spartanburg: WSPA or WMYI?

WMYI: 1,707 titles YTD.
WXLY: 2,157.

WSPA: 1,363.

But hey, don't let the facts get in the way of a good story!

PS: I run Tesh in mornings, and he's a huge #1 in the adult women cells.
 
Actually WMYI has a live morning show, but am not sure if the restof the day is live and their night time show is Delilah and not like what you hear on WXLY which used to be a great oldies station until Cheap Channel screwed it up.

Eh, musically WXLY sounds a lot like WSPA more than My. They play some more 'unfamiliar' songs mostly from the 80s and you occasionally hear some different 60s songs (other than Build Me Up Buttercup), I guess because of their oldies roots. Quite a bit of the music is from the 2000s. I know they are using the same voice talent and jingles as WMYI, though. WXLY seems to have a larger variety, but presentation-wise, it's pretty similar to WMYI. WXLY is NOTHING like it was 3+ years ago. Outstanding station then.

Yeah, Magic seems more involved with the community than My 102.5. They were on location somewhere most of the day yesterday. It just feels more like it's "there." My is live in mornings and mid-days, voicetracked afternoons, Delilah at night and auto late nights.

Actually, 21 as of August! Does anyone remember the 100+ billboards that blanketed the region, or the "41,000 songs in a row" kickoff?

I've been part of a few big move-ins, but nothing like that one. The owner, AmCom, was led by George Francis, who had a major grudge against former employer WFBC, the established AC in the market at the time. The resources given us to beat them were almost unbelievable. That was a very fun staff, but getting Love & Hudson back from Florida to do mornings was the final piece. WFBC finally threw in the towel, and switched to oldies.

It was kind of a soap opera internally...I was the 4th of 7 PDs during my four years at the station, but still some great memories! I managed to get out just before it was sold, and it looked from the outside like MY was programmed to take a dive by a jealous new owner. Kinda sad!
 
I was listening to 102.5 this afternoon and it's just sad. They sound so sad and dead compared to even a few years ago. At one point the DJs voicetrack was running over a commercial. The liners are so basic. Looks to me like ClearChannel is putting their money in the 2 country stations and WMYI seems to be on the back burner. Just awful to see a station with such potential to sound like it does.
 
I don't doubt what you're saying is true C-Radio, however WMYI still has a significant edge in the Arbs. I program the greatest radio station ever in the shower.
 
Hey Paul I remember back in 1987 when MY 102.5 also did their 25,000 song music marathon... They had people calling in to vote on the format eventhough it was pretty much known what the format was gonna be... I remember when all the testing was going on wayyyyyy before MY ever signed on... I may be crazy, but before the calls MYI were given and after the WKIT calls went away they were testing with the calls WKLQ, but I may be wrong I just remember they had a set of different calls during the test phase ie March and April of 87... By that time 99.9 Kiss FM had already went in what ever music direction they had gone and WANS in the upstate was one of my faves I still listened to MY because at the time it had one of the best mixes of music...... Whatever happened to Greg McKinney formerly of WMYI (and if my memory isn't failing me, WSPA earlier)? He was the PD and afternoon DJ. I think he left in 2006. Is he still in the area or business? 102.5 sounded great when he was there. Who is even programming the station now???
 
I remember when WMYI started. I used to keep up with signal upgrades in Broadcasting Magazine.

One day I heard the songs that were on the soundtrack to "Beverly Hills Cop". Not all were songs that I knew, but some of those were probably not singles.

I put this on Wikipedia, but I'm sure they'd like it verified.
