Best City in the U.S. to FM DX

Another vote for the southern coast of SC! Even with a very cluttered band being close to Savannah, GA, I pick up plenty Jacksonville FMs year-round and lots of occasions like today when I pick up Orlando, Vero Beach, Tampa, Miami, and West Palm Beach stations pretty easy. I have also, oddly enough, picked up a LOT of stations from Austin and San Antonio, TX on more than one occasion.
My second favorite is the Blue Ridge Parkway from Roanoke to Harrisonburg in VA. In that 100 mile drive, you may very well get 4-5 different stations on one frequency.
Least favorite: Miami...not because its a big city per se, but it seems the whole South Florida area is awash in RF interference and pirates!

I'm located in Lubbock, TX and I've had lots of luck out here in West Texas in the summer. There are very few HD stations out here. Only one here in Lubbock and two in Amarillo. And even though it's as flat as pancake out here, i'm technically at an elevation of around 3,000 ft. I've had some impressive tropo out here from time to time. Not on a regular basis though. Check out this video from last year that I caught of some unusually strong tropo:

Of course this video depicts abnormally strong tropo. Typical tropo will bring in Midland, Amarillo, and eastern New Mexico into town. Abilene and San Angelo aren't uncommon either.
Catching Spradic E is not uncommon either during the Summer months. Here's a video I caught last year of many stations from Georgia coming into town.

As for DX'ing in the winter months, your pretty much out of luck out here. DX'ing is best here only in the mid to late spring all the until middle of fall. Definitely not as enjoyable as a place like Florida, but at least I don't have to put up with the HD hiss out here.

I agree, the Blue Ridge Pkwy is fun. I plan to go there soon. I haven't tried the coastal areas south of NC, yet. Hearing the TX stations in SC may sound like Eskip to me, but if itsn't Eskip then Wow!radiodxrichmond said:

@radiodxrichmond: I second that emotion, generally! I do as well as I can here (22 mi NW of Miami), if not for unchecked pirates & IBOC. Had a fantastic 3 days, but practically nil here tonight.

Did a little scan and nothing at all to write home about.
The last couple days were the most amazing I remember since the spring of 89 when I remember getting real good signals from Houston.
I still even remember the song being played when I got the first ID, "Hangin Tough" by New Kids on the Block. Whenever I've heard that song since in the past 20 years, it only reminds me of that amazing night of tropo.

@gar----I think I remember that time too. I only had rabbit ears at the time, but ch 14 Houston TBN was in color from here (900+ miles), and also ch 14 Monroe LA. Caught that 14 again in 1998, but even w/ outdoor antenna, not nearly like 1989. I had the VCR going for the Monroe LA, but playing it constantly was affecting playback.
