Best songs on today's country radio

Does anyone else here like The Band Perry-Hip To My Heart? It's been one of my favorites since I first heard it and I'm not burned on it yet. I wonder if there is any polarization on this song since it has a young pop sound.

"Hip To My Heart" has been on my station now for 3 weeks and I've come to love it. The song has a super hook. I'm in my 50s and I think the young pop sound is great - just a continuation of the evolution of country music which - like it or not - has been going on for at least 50 years now.

Also diggin' "Ain't Back Yet."

Though I do not care for most of the other hits by the Zac Brown Band, my feeling is that Highway 20 Ride is the best charting country song over the last few months. It has poignant lyrics about missed opportunities for a father to meet his son, who lives with his former wife. It seems very country and very relevant. The singing and the music are also very good.

Currently, I'm liking

George Strait-I Gotta Get to You
Danny Gokey-My Best Days are Ahead of Me
Band Perry-Hip to My Heart
Martina McBride-Wrong Baby Wrong Baby Wrong

I agree on Martina, that's her best song in a long time.

Uncle Kracker's "Smile" is starting to progress on the chart. I've been enjoying the song on AC, and would listen to it on a country station. Pretty good.

Billy Currington-Pretty Good at Drinking Beer

That's the one, and I heard the name and artist in a countdown last night. I read somewhere that qasn't a good song. I can't imagine why. It has good lyrics and it's real country in its musical style.

The Youtube video of "Pretty Good at Drinking Beer" has a funny ending with the guy acting like a bully and ends up losing.

I got lucky and when I paid a bill I heard a good song. Not appropriate for an office environement, but good if I were listening to country radio. Something about night.

Okay, not as good as I thought. Blake Shelton's "All about Tonight" was probably worse on the CMA Awards. I hope the radio version didn't have that word in it.

My votes are for Little Big Towns "Kiss Goodbye". Love the vocals in the song. I'm also really diggin' The JaneDear Girls "Wildflower". Don't know why, but its been stuck in my head for awhile now.

I agree with Mac Daddy about "Wildflower" - very cool 21st century country tune.

I'm really lovin' the new Kenny Chesney - "Somewhere With You." Purists will say "hell, that ain't country music!" Well, maybe it ain't - it has the echo of a '70's era pop song, but this song will be a smash #1.

Also noteworthy is Dierks' "Draw Me a Map" - a treasure from an album full of wonderful music - especially if you love bluegrass!

I'd like to call attention to a couple of album tracks by Kenny and Dierks, which probably will not make mainstream country radio: "You and Tequila," Kenny's duet with Grace Potter is beautiful and perfect. Even non-country fans - like my wife - will love this one. And have you heard "Small Y'all" - Kenny's duet with George Jones? The only true stone-country song on the album - it's tons o' fun and the ol' Possum rises to the occasion!

A must-hear is Dierks' "Bad Angel" from the album "Up on the Ridge." It's a joyous collaboration with Miranda Lambert and Jamey Johnson, and they all sing like they were born to be a trio. It'll never be mainstream, but it's one of the "musical events" of the decade.

I like "Somewhere With You" as well. Often times new songs by core artists are kind of boring to me, they tend to sound similar to earlier hits the artist recorded. But this song really stands out. It's different, fresh sounding, and just a great song.

I heard a song that mentioned red cows and blue skies. I think I got that right. While it sounds like Urban Cowboy country, there's something real or at least comfortable about it that so many of today's songs don't have.

I like Steel Magnolia's newest song "Last Night Again." There are not many new songs I like, but this would be one.

I Love Country Newcomer Bradley Gaskin his Debut Single "Mr.Bartender" has a real Traditional Classic Country Sound and Kicks!!!
