Best songs on today's country radio

It's not necessarily good enough for, say, classic country radio, though some of the bad songs are showing up on Real Country.

But I heard a female vocalist singing about how it's time to put an end to songs about girls being treated like all they need to do is look good, shut up, and sit beside her man in the pickup. It at least sounded country.

This may have been "Girl in a Country Song" which I heard performed on the CMA Awards by Maddie and Tae. I liked the clip of their music when they were nominated so i decided not to fast-forward through their song like I did most of the other. Kacey Musgraves was the only other singer whose entire performance I heard. In my opinion, Brad and Carrie had the most genuine-sounding country performance when they were hosting.

^^^ In my opinion that Kasey girl was one of the low points of the show. She may know how to write a song, but to me if it isn't delivered the right way, what difference will the words of the message make? She has absolutely no pep in her voice to where she sounds boring which is probably why she decided to do her performance in a bathing suit. What other way was there for her to get people's attention?

God bless you always!!!

Holly

P.S. Carrie Underwood and Little Big Town's performances were the other low points of the show. Carrie has never impressed me, and "Girl Crush" is one of my least favorite LBT songs no matter what the song is really about. If its really about jealousy then I can't relate to it because if there is something about me that other people do not like, it isn't my problem.

I liked how Kacey was dressed.

Her voice wasn't that great, I will admit, but it was the good kind of country.

Carrie impresses me if I'm looking at her. She has perfect teeth, perfect hair, perfect everything. And if she does the kind of music I can enjoy, which is rarely, I like her voice too.

Chris Stapleton cashed in at the CMA Awards. That seems to have given his hit “Nobody To Blame” a boost of energy. He also has another song “Tennessee Whiskey” on the Taking Off list. I hope he’s the future of Country music.

"Here Comes Santa Claus" by Gene Autry. That was a nice surprise. The next two songs were the usual garbage. Are there any newcomers who don't depend on Auto-Tune?

Over the weekend I landed on one country station playing a really good song. It must be here somewhere and I know I've heard the title, but nothing about the lyrics suggested an obvious title. The man celebrated a mother's love, beer and those who served our country as part of a really long list.

And he was on SNL but I didn't take the time to listen there.

I could be wrong here, but right now the only song that comes to me with that kind of description is "Real Men Love Jesus" from newer singer Michael Ray.

God bless you and him always!!! :) :) :)

Would it be “Chicken Fried” by the Zac Brown Band?

That's it. "Chicken fried" were the other words I couldn't remember.

I also heard "Nobody to Blame" by Chris Stapleton on a classic country station. Given his popularity that is surely being played on the "new country" stations.

I feel so stupid now. I can't believe that "Chicken Fried" never came to me! :) :) :)

God bless you and the ZBB always!!!

I like it when I walk into a convenience store I go to a lot which plays one of these "new country" FMs and I'm actually hearing country. "Love Without End, Amen" by George Strait is what I believe the DJ said.

And in that same convenience store, the words "new country" spoken by either a DJ or a recording and followed by "Fishin' in the Dark".

Just last week I was reading "No One to Blame" was being played on country radio even though it was uncertain Chris Stapleton's sound would be accepted. I first discovered the song on "Real Country" when I didn't like whatever was being played at the time on the co-owned oldies station that used to be America's Best Music. I thought it was Waylon.

He seemed to be doing well last night.

Is Margo Price getting radio airplay? She was on "Saturday Night Live" and her band sounded as good as any group on classic country radio. And she's good too.

If anyone here is interested. go here to check out a recent chat that my most favorite singer James Otto did. A big thing that is addressed during the chat is how the songwriting industry is these days and what James thinks about where it is now and where it may be headed.

God bless you and him always!!!
