Best sports and sports talk station which one is better?

My pick is 937thefan.
 
That's a bit of a loaded question, 1250 has a weak signal and almost no local shows.
Save for Stan Savran who is still the best.

And that brings up the greater point, the question we should all be asking...why is 93.7 the fan so bad, when they are the only real (high power) sports station in Pittsburgh?
It's unbelievable the waste of a signal that 93.7 has become, not that they started with any real talent or buzz in the first place.

Before 6am all the way through to midnight you already know what everyone on every show is going to say and how they'll say it.
I'll say it again they need a real radio personality, someone with energy, someone with charisma, someone that is appointment radio.

Currently they are all duds. A glorified phone answering service. Boring and stale.
They have not changed or even attempted to improve one thing in 2 years!

Not long ago Pittsburgh had some of the best sports talk in the country.
Not anymore, and I don't see it coming back.

I do think Gregg Gionnati brings energy to the fan morning show. Otherwise, I do agree with you about the fan.
 
I tend to listen to 970 more because of Savran, plus I like the national Mike and Mike show.

Nothing against Joe Bendel, but that afternoon drive program is generally a gawd-awful slog.

CC's dilemma there is they want to stay in format, but don't want anything that would actually take numbers from Madden. They sell some remotes, so it makes money, and that's all they care about in this case.
 
Bendel is currently the best sports talk show on the air Pittsburgh. The local programming on after him is also very enjoyable.

That said, it's impossible to tune in 970 in my office and I can't stream at work.

So I end up listening to the Fan. Each show has an easily fixable flaw that they refuse to fix, so they must be happy with the station. The flaws, as I see them: Alexander, Vinnie, Seibel & Miller, Filliponi.
 
Does any one listen to Fox Sports 540? Sometimes. It's a nice alternative when ESPN is talking NBA and the Fan is doing Pitt hoops.

If they had Jim Rome as was originally announced, I'd listen all the time. Instead, they rerun the Fox wakeup show noon-3.

It does seem that Joe gets to tour nearly every tavern in the City of Pittsburgh on the company's dime.

We have the talent in this market, but a) it's not being used in favor of syndicated talent, and b) it's not being marketed properly. In most cases, it's the latter.

You'll recall that WTAE had the sports market cornered in the 70s and 80s with Myron, Stan and Billy. They were untouchable...and Hearst spared NO expense. NONE. Even Guy Junker became a household name in a relatively short time. I believe that talent is out there...it needs to be put out there with some serious money.

If anyone there is listening, a suggestion that they pick up Notre Dame Football this fall.
It would appear not to have a home now that KQV is the local home of the Nittany Lions.
And it couldn't hurt to attract some of that subway alumni.

Get yourself a cheap little HD radio (fits in your pocket...you can get one new from Best Buy / Insignia for around $40, or used from various other online retailers for even less than that) and go to WPGB 104.7 HD2. That FM channel carries ESPN 970 and may well be able to penetrate your building in the way their AM signal evidently cannot.
