BEST SPORTS TELEPHONE TALK PERSONALITY IN NEW YORK

In the 60s, I would have said Bill Mazer. In 2008, I say Warner Wolf. He is the most charismatic and engaging radio sportscaster on any station in New York and that includes anyone on WFAN. Warner is far more literate than Mike and the Mad Dog. I think that Warner appeals to a more educated, sophisticated audience than any of the WFAN guys.

I agree with you with Bill mazer in hte 60s.
I loved to listen to Art Rusk Jr on WABC in the 80s, when I was able to pick up WABC in Florida.
I now enjoy and respect Tony Paige.

I agree on Steve Summers... He has a humorous edge to his performance and has a quick wit - something that's severely lacking in today's top NYC and national sports and talk radio talent.

Sommers, Jody Mac, Joe Benigno, Tony Paige, Ed Coleman, Kim Jones. All at the top of my list.

One thing that makes Joe Banigno a great talk show host -- he's a FAN and NOT a self-absorbed talking head who takes his opinions on sports and games too seriously.

He's also a very nice guy when you deal with him in person - he's the same on and off the air. I have a special place in my heart for Steve. Back in 1991, his overnight show was responsible for getting me to finally start LIKING the sports talk format on 66. :D

I wish he wouldn't be pre-empted so much for games, though.

Def Steve Sommers and not just b/c he's a die hard Met fan like myself... I also think Evan Roberts does an awesome job.
