Best Voices in Atlanta (local only) Radio

Hadnt seen this discussion here before so...Whose voice -- regardless of what they're saying or what records they're playing -- do you like to hear on local radio? For instance, I love Mara's show, but no one would ever say she has a great radio voice.

On the men's side, I've always liked Rude's voice. He's not a puker but it has a nice rich tone and he can do a lot with it. Always in control and can make his point without screaming. Scott Slade (maybe a little too boss-tone) and Jim Vann too. Steve McCoy has a nice voice.
For women's, I like Kristen on Kicks in the morning. Maybe a little young-sounding, but it's pleasant. Dallas on Eagle is good too but tries to purr a little too often for my taste. I like Vikki Locke's voice. Margot on Dave is very pleasant to listen to.
 
The first name that came to mind for me was Jim Vann. Just a real classic voice.
 
I have always thought Steve Mitchell had a beautiful, natural, smooth voice. That is probably why he now makes his living doing VO.
 
I'll start by saying--and I think it's already been said--some of the best jocks don't have the best voices. But in terms of best voices, some that come to mind are: Margot, Vikki Locke, Jenn Hobby, Brittany, Cadillac Jack, Kristen Gates, Steve Mitchell, Greg Fitzgerald, Maria Lopez, Dave Kosh, Scott Slade, Pete Colmes and Chris Rude. With Jenn, it might just be her way of saying things, but I find her a nice way to wake up.

On the commercial and production side, I always liked former Z93 voice George Robinson as well as John Young and Tony "The Tiger" Taylor...
 
Not for a while. He's independent and survived a medical scare a few years back.
 
I think Boomer and Mark McCain at Eagle are probably two of the best voices in the city. Smooth, rich and always easy to listen to.
 
Kelly McCoy was a great voice.

Todd Starnes, too. He's on the Fox News Radio network, but a former Atlanta and WRAS guy. Hear him on WGST.
 
Without a doubt, the best voice in my lifetime on Atlanta radio is John Hogue a.k.a. Mark McCain.

Not only a great set of pipes, but a great talent and nice guy that I had the pleasure of working with many years ago. I've always felt he deserved better than he got in Atlanta after he returned from St. Louis. More than that, as a listener, I felt cheated. I know he has been on a few different stations, but never the major player he had been at 96 Rock.

But then, I guess we could say that about many other talented jocks that have graced the Atlanta airwaves over the years.
 
Yes, thats an underreported story. Mark McMcain from 83-86 was the top jock in Atlanta. He was the driving force on 96rock; Mitchell was 2nd banana. Then they left for STL around 86. Around '89, he was back in the ATL doing afternoons for 104.1, which was kind of a low-budget start-up pop/AC/rock with studios in CNN Center. The on-air booths were visible to gawking passersby and I remember thinking that he must really hate what happened to his career, as he grimaced at the people peering in. So why didnt he get a "2nd chance" at a major player like Mitchell did? Was there more to his story than any of us know? A reason why he wasnt reunited with Mitchell at Z or 96 or some other place? Always wondered, b/c he really was at the top for a period of time. If there was a top 10 list of most influential morning jocks in Atlanta radio history, he'd be on the list.
 
i want to throw another name out. I worked with John Scott on 85 South from Nov 04-april 05. He did time warp weekends on magic for years. Man for a little guy he had some deep pipes.
