Best Voices in Atlanta (local only) Radio

I would have to submit Bob Baily (Z93) and Randy Randy Marsh Marsh from the old Fox 97.

Both are great guys.

Speaking of Fox. You might remember Alan Sledge from Mid-days back around 88-90. He's now Senior VP of Porgramming for Clear Channel.

Dave Cohen - the Voice of the Panthers - has to be at the top of the list. Worked for half the AM stations in town at one point. Liked him when he would fill in for Holman on WSB in the mornings. Granted, it's amazing he still has a voice considering all the f-bombs he yells off the air as bad as the Panthers usually play.

If the past few posts reflect the best, what about the ABSOLUTE worst in Atlanta? I've got 4 or 5 that quickly come to mind!!!

Back to the best......
One of the best voices I've heard is Jeff Walker-many years doing Saturday mornings on WPCH/WLTW.
And Don Kennedy,(Officer Don) still doing "Big Band Jump" (WRAS 88.5 Sunday 11AM-12Noon)has pipes like no other living creature. Must have been testosterone in all those ooey gooey bags......
Many people(including me) thought Beth Kepple had a special alure - she could make that ol' Nuemann U87 mic sound good on 96 Rock.
And speaking of 96 Rock - Mark and Steve were(are) great but Willard sounded great too, as did John Boy. Both thoses guys could crank it out when they really wanted to. Most of the air staff on 96 was pretty damned good as I remember.....
Used to be that almost everyone on the air had pipes. "Junior" voices only became vogue in the 80's.
I always wanted to be a jock .....but something crawled into my throat and died.

Tom said: "And Don Kennedy ... Must have been testosterone in all those ooey gooey bags..."

Yes indeed - that's why they blindfolded the little bastards.

I believe Robert Shuler of WABE-FM has got to have one of, if not the best, voices in the Atlanta market. Some years ago there was a newsman on WSB-AM (1970s) by the name of Richard Bradley - he probably had the best voice, and delivery, of any news person on radio then.....and since. Unfortunately, he passed away some years ago.

I always liked John Young, Mark Mccann, Craig Ashwood, and there was a lady that worked @LOVE86 WAEC in the in the 1980's named Beth. and the guy that did the elmans commercials
"Stuart Culpepper" )I believe that was his name)

Love 86 had Beth Bailey. She got married and is named Beth Lauria now. She lives in Cobb county and works as a parapro at Sope Creek Elementary in the Library. I worked with her back then. Had a great voice. Wish she was still in radio.

I was a summer intern there in 85-87. Beth did havea great voice and she did her job well. I remember in 1986 they had a jingle that went something like "Its the year and were they station LOVE86 WAEC". I think I just butchered whatever the the line was.
There was some good talent there besides Beth.
Jay Baetty
Don Stone

WAEC was contemp Christian back then. I did some work there assisting the engineer, Skip Marshall.
David Teems worked there for a while also. David was a very talented musician and composer.....and did a great show also!

I worked there in 85/86 when Jay Beatty was there before I went to WSSA. Jay passed away in the mid 90's from cancer. He had great pipes and could edit anything on fly. WAEC (Atlanta's Electric Church) was one of the first contempory christian music stations in the country.

Who was the lady @ WAEC who had the real long hair she had a very soothing voice and how can I forget Kathy Fishman I really enjoyed listening to her on WSB
The guy who did miday or afternoon drive @ 94Q I think it was Jeff Macartney.

Hey,
I think your right!! That sounds familar.
Good JOB
I know this off topic
Did you ever see the man that always dressed in a Superman outfit(tights).
He always showed up at WAEC events.
