Best Voices in Atlanta (local only) Radio

Yes, but I barely remember him. Also, 11 alive meteorolgist Chris Holcomb worked at WAEC in '84 and '85. He got his start there before moving to GA Lawmakers. He then to WMAZ 13 in Macon as a weather guy after he graduated from UGA.

That's pretty cool I didn't realize Chris Holcombe worked there
Whatever happened to Mike Fernandez 96ROCK Higher Frequency?
Do you remember his show?

Heidi Rew....WGKA...Sweet Sweet Voice....How about Ferrell? (NOT)... I also like John Weatherbee's Voice...not outstanding but distinct...

Hi, saw my name pop up. A few comments were made about Love 86, WAEC. Kind of an expert on this topic. I helped build WAEC, Love 86 as GM from 1979-1994. It came on the air Dec. 3, 1978 as the first Atlanta station to play contemporary Christian music. (Atlanta's, Electric Church). It was originally WERD, then WXAP.
Played programs in the morning, music in the afternoon as a 1000 watt daytimer. Eventually got 5,000 watts, then 24 hours. Had to drop the music format in the mid-90s. Couldn't compete with the FMs.
I left in 1994 to pursue my publishing ventures doing the Braves Express and Georgia Tech Express newspapers. I also had created the Atlanta Christian Business Directory, which is now in its 37th edition. I had started a music newspaper called the Love 86 Express in 1987 and changed it to Atlanta Christian Magazine when I left in 1994. Still publishing that. www.atlantachristianweb.com.

Dan Dunnegan was the first dj & production guy. Real name Ron Mccarter. Worked at 1160AM in Atlanta as GM a few years ago. Lost track of him.
Regarding the female announcer, Beth Bailey, now Beth Lauria, was extremely popular as our afternoon DJ. She started as an intern from Shorter College when I began in 1979 and stayed at the station until she got married in the mid-80's. Debbie Walker was the one with long hair that was mentioned. Best talent for sending on remotes. Worked there about a dozen years. Jay Beattie was the voice who did most of the spots and production. Great friend. We all miss him.
The station was really humming for awhile but eventually had to go all programs from competition with Victory 91.5 and J93. Can't play music on an AM while there are two FM's around.

I think Boomer and Mark McCain at Eagle are probably two of the best voices in the city. Smooth, rich and always easy to listen to.
Thank you for the compliment. Isn't strange that Mark and I worked together at 96rock? I also thought of a name that hasn't been mentioned..Jeff Winter of the old 94Q automation days. And again, it's very humbling to be mentioned in the same company of these great voices.

Glad you mentioned Ron McCarter,(Dan Dunnegan) from am 1160. I worked with him there when Billy Corey owned the station and it was oldies before becoming Music of Your Life. Sadly Ron passed some years ago. He was a terrific person and loved radio. It was really the most fun I've had working in radio.

I want to throw a couple more voices out there. kevin sanders former gm of WUWG 90.7 FM) has a great set of pipes. His voice is deep and soothing and fit the NPR model. Michael Vincent has a great vice. He voice tracks alot of his shifts (or used to) and he make s it sound like he is there in studio.

Bob Lee back when WAOK was a great station.
