Best Weekend Nationally syndicated HipHop show of all time

Sway and King Tech = "The WakeUp Show"

I HATED when they stopped the show, and the Baka Boyz replaced them. SMH the Baka Boyz show was nothing hype about it, just another "time slot filler" with KNOWN artists and mixes, not even a true all-rap all-hiphop show like The WakeUp Show was.

I remember back in the time WGCI's local show "Rapdown" was 100% pure rap. And this is what I think Urban radio has lost and forgot, was pure rap mixes, not ANY r&b mixed in AT ALL.

Take a trip to the best

Live in The Den w Big Tigger is a pretty good countdown show. Also The Orignal Countdown with Walt Baby Love is good. The Urban AC verison I never heard before but the orignal countdown plays current Hip Hop and R&B hits. Still surprised his show is on the air.

Oh yeah, also
"Street Jams" with Paco Lopez. That was with (Superadio Networks) It was originnally ["Open House Party" with John Garabedian (Now with "Westwood One Radio Network")].
In 1993/1994, "Open House Party" changed to "Street Jams" it was on Sundays 7pm-Midnight. It lasted until ?? 2002.

"Open House Party"
These days,
could be considered as CHR/Hip Hop
It's currently on Saturday nights 7pm-Midnight Eastern Time.
The affilate station I usually listen to is (92 Pro FM) from Providence, RI.
KISS 108 in Boston used to have it on, until they disregarded it about two years ago, and they only played it 7pm-10pm.
Give it a listen, it's worth the listen. If you do, let us know your thoughts?

Wakeup Show was not a countdown show, it was a true rap/hip hop show focusing on the underground deeply course in 94 mainstream was just taking off, so there was alot more artists considered underground back then.

Never liked Walt Baby Love's show simply because he didnt like or appreciate rap period. If a rap song made it on the countdown, he'd mention it only or play just a snip of the song and move to the next. smh. support all music or dont mention it is my belief.

open house party was chr demo imo, even was part of kissfm92 wkie befor they switched to energy.

Nothings come close to the wakeup show

I havent listen to Walt Baby Love since 2001 when I was in Los Angeles for the summer. It use to air Sundays nights on KJLH and back home in Kansas City Saturday mornings on KPRS. As of now i dont know any affliates that carry that show but Gospel Traxx is on alot of Urban AC and Mainstream Urban stations on Sunday. KHYL in Sacramento and KQOD Stockon Sunday mornings both Rythnmic AC stations. Gospel Traxx use to air on KKBT Sunday mornings but got bumped for Bebe Winas gospel show. KDAY picked up Gospel Traxx in 2006. The last time I heard the countdown was 2 weeks after Aaliyah died and 1 day before the 9/11 attacks in the US. Walt Baby Love did a tribute and that same show he played the entire verison of Jay Z "Izzo" and Jennifer Lopez and Ja Rule "Im Real Murder Remix" which was #1. So he skipped over on R&B music too mainly because he would have a studio interview or a countdown flasback. Still a great countdown show and one of the longest on air.

KJLH played Jay-Z's Izzo and J. Lo & Ja Rule's I'm Real Remix ??? I never heard "The Walt Baby Love Countdown" because I wasn't listening to KJLH on the regular in 2001. Sorry to get off topic but in 2001-02 KJLH had in heavy rotation Erykah Badu's Didn't cha Know, Luther Vandross Take You Out but threw in the jazz later on down the line and also played I'd Rather and Ruff Endz Someone To Love You but throws the jazz in and Donell Jones You Know That I Love You and started testing the jazz version, India.Arie's Brown Skin Jaheim's Anything Kenny Lattimore's Weekend. BTW I learned about Rhythms of the night with Levi Booker. How long was Walt was on
KJLH?

In 2001 you were listening to either 100.3 or 105.9 most of the time. That was a syndicated program back then when KJLH actually sounded like a real Urban AC station. Back in 2001 it was Gospel on sundays and then around 8pm it was a talk show dont remeber the name then the Countdown with Walt from 9-11pm then another syndicated show RadioScope. A black entertainment show that feature news in the african american community. It's no longer on the air. KKBT use to air slow jams on Sunday night with Kevin James which is why I wouldnt listen. KJLH expanded it Gospel programming all day on sundays. Walt show was dropped in 2003 in favor for Bobby Jones Gospel Countdown which is now gone from the station. The Countdown has been on the air since August 1983.

Another 1 if anyone remebers from the late 90's and early 2000's The Allstar Mix Party w Fatman Scoop. The show aired Friday nights on KPRS in Kansas City.

oH YEAH, FORGOT BOUT DAT ONE. IS ANYONE LISTENING TO 106 & RADIO OR HOW ABOUT GANGSTA GRILLZ RADIO? ALL OF THE SYNDICATED MORNING SHOWS NOW HAVE WEEKEND SHOWS TOO (RUSS, RICKY, STEVE & TOM).

Now its called Full Throttle Radio with Fatman Scope. I havent heard 106 and Park since KDAY here in Los Angeles aired it in 2009. I hear its airing in New York on WQHT. Didnt really care for it. I never heard Russ Parr radio show. Tome Joyners Right Back ATCHA I havent listen since 2006 on KMJK Saturdays 7am to 9am. Just a breakdown of his daily show. Steve Harvey Saturdays sounds good. More music less country talk. Doug Banks use to have a weekend show with ABC Radio years ago. Also another one to add Randy Jackson Hitlist with Kesiha Monk formally KKBT/WRKS. KDAY use to air it Sundays There are two verisons one for Urban Radio and one for Hot AC.

Wow 28 years. BTW What was wrong with the slow jam show on KKBT alot R&B songs
that they spunned on "The Night Beat" you'll would hear during the day also so what were you trippin off of. Don't trip, I'm not picking on you but I gotta know. Besides the R&B slow jams sounded great in 2001-02. That's where I discovered Jaheim's Anything, Tank's Maybe I Deserve, Musiq Soulchild's Love, Halfcrazy and Don't Change, Ruff Endz Someone To Love You and KeKe Wyatt's Nothing In This World. If "The Beat" was around today and the night beat was on now you would hear Keyshia Cole's Take Me Away, Melanie Fiona's It Kills Me and Lloyds Lay It Down and Donell Jones Love Like This. I'll take it back there is some great R&B this year. Wouldn't you agree. BTW I like Chris Brown's She Ain't You.

Nobody is trippn here LOL ::) There is a life outside listening to The Beat all the time. I was only into Hip Hop R&B and Pop music during 2001. I didnt care for slow R&B or oldies back then. Wasnt my demo nor didnt care to hear it so I flip stations. Moving on another Urban syndicated show not Hip hop but counts. The U.S.A. Music Magazine and Reflections with John Monds. No longer on the air produced by the American Urban Radio Networks. John Monds is in DC doing afternoons on WMMJ FM. Big Boy's Hip Hop Spot is another syndicated show. Not sure its still on the air. When Big Boy was dropped from Citadel Media Dial Global picked up his morning show but the weekend show is not listed on Dial Global site. And The Back Spin (with Spinderella) syndicated with Superadio Network. Good mix of R&B Hip Hop and Oldschool music.

I forgot
"Lost in The 80s with Derrick Jonzun" (Superadio.com)
It was on KISS 104.1 Atlanta, Ga. Last time I listened to it was about three years ago. It aired Saturday night into Sunday morning around 1am-3am. It's well worth the listen

I remeber hearing it one time. I think WMXD in Detroit use to air it. Perfect show for Urban AC radio for the weekends.

I remember Big Boy's Hip Hop spot, it's not Power 106 out here in L.A. as far as I know. I haven't heard his weekend show since May 2009 right around the time when Power 106 started to add Lady Gaga's Poker Face to the playlist and other pop hop hits to the Power Playlist. KPWR's programming was kind of fragmented because they were heavy on rave/trance music in 2009-10 but at the same time attempts image itself as a "Hip Hop & R&B" station which was at the time vague because until this day they're still using the  "Where Hip Hop Lives" slogan. Power is actually trying get it together, they're very big on Chris Brown's She Ain't You which contains a sample to
SWV's Right Here(The Micheal Jackson's Human Nature Mix) from 1993-94 great summer R&B tune and they are testing out Frank Ocean's Novacane which is sort of like a Musiq Soulchild, D' Angelo or Eric Benét tune despite the heavy profane lanague in the album version. LOL ::). In 2001-02 I wasn't feeling classic soul either dude, I would be listening to the Hip Hop melodies of Shade Sheist's Money Owners Featuring Timaland as well as Wake Up Feat Nate Dogg, Outkast's So Fresh, So Clean, Eric Sermon's Music, Emeniem's Without Me,  Project Pat's Chicken Head and Khia's My Neck, My Back which were huge hits on Power 106 in the 2001-02 era. The R&B I was into was Joe, Brandy, Jagged Edge, Jaheim, 112, B2K, Mya, Dru Hill, Mary J Blige and Erykah Badu. I miss those times. As we get older our musical preferance change. I listen to alot more of the 90's & Early 2000's Hip Hop & R&B more than when those were hot and fresh off the streets when KKBT & KPWR were still urban contemporary and spinning them.

I remember they used to aired The Allstar Mix Party on 92.3 KIIZ-FM in Killeen, TX back in 2000 and 2001. They aired it on Saturday Nights from 10pm to Midnight.

also around the middle 90s ???? 1992-1997 "On The Radio" was hosted by Jeff Davis. He had two versions, CHR and Hip Hop. It was a one hour program. They had the top 5 hits of the week, and some artist spotlights. This guy had a radio voice that you can never forget. The production was excelent!!!
This aired here in Boston on (Clear Channel) KISS 108 Sunday into Monday morning at 1am. They aired both versions
