Betty White to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at Daytime Emmys

Betty White should probably clear a spot in her trophy case.

The “Hot in Cleveland” actress and general icon will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Daytime Emmy Awards, which will air live Apr. 26 on Pop at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences said Monday.

Hailing White as “an American institution,” NATAS president Bob Mauro added that the 93-year-old actress is “one of the most beloved female performers in the history of television.”

I'm glad I'll probably get to see the show. I say "probably" because my package is so basic WGN America and TV Guide Channel (to be Pop) are the only national channels. And some people lost WGN.

Why is it so early this year?

I was surprised by how pretty she was an what appeared to be a clip of a game show appearance in the 70s. I finally had time to watch one of the "Hot in Cleveland" reruns I had recorded and it just so happened the last one I taped was the one with flashbacks to how the girls met. Jane Leeves' character happened to have a TV tuned to the game show, where Betty was wearing a name tag that said "Elka" (and she commented on how annoying the woman was). Obviously they used technology to make that name tag appear, but it sure looked real.
 
It was a nice tribute. A little short on her prime time career but it was the Daytime Emmys.

I was glad to see Charo again. it has been years.

I almost didn't see the show (no big loss, actually) because I had forgotten it would be on this early, but one enwspaper's web site had a headline on the main page about it. Because of that paper's web site changes, I have to scroll down and look at the whole main page first.
 
You Tube has episodes of Life with Elizabeth, the sitcom Betty starred in from 1953 - 55. To put it in perspective, I'm 63 years old, but I was 1 to 3 years old when the show was originally aired. It's an interesting slice of TV history. Very gentle, low-key comedy that wouldn't stand a chance on the air today. It's even low-key compared to other shows of the time like I Love Lucy , I Married Joan or Life of Riley .
