Big D103 - Here's the link to the Hartford Courant story

Unbelievable, what are they thinking?! Aren't they just going to realize in a couple months that the demographics are too old for a format like that, just like almost every other FM oldies station in the country?

I think it's important to note that the article implies "adding" the pre-64 oldies. There is no mention that they are removing the post 1979 material. They could be very creative in their format and cover the entire spectrum. I did this with my oldies webstream for 7 years and it was pretty successful.

So let' see... we're probably not losing any music that's not out there already on a dozen other stations while adding songs that haven't been heard on mainstream terrestrial radio for a long time, all while bringing back over 40 years of Hartford radio heritage, and somehow that makes it a step back for Hartford radio?

Well for those of you worried the station would totally change at midnight, it hasn't at all. I haven't heard one pre-1964 song since midnight and it's 12:30 now. In fact, the station appears to be leaning more heavily towards 1970's hits in the first half hour of its anniversary. Either the decision to rename the station came last-minute last week or the Courant totally got the story wrong. Grahame Winters keeps saying "102.9 DRC-FM is the Big D" vocally, and the jingles haven't changed at all.

As for mentioning the anniversary itself? Just one clip at 12:15 with the same medley on the station's launch and original "fun" promotion that they've run in the past. So far it just sounds like a one-day stunt the Courant blew out of proportion.

Bill DeFelice got it right. It's still DRC-FM with the new jingles they bought a few months ago. The station brought back the Big D moniker and added reverb.

They have been known as BIG-D 103 for 20 years so its good they brought it back :)

Umm, they didn't.

The jocks are saying "Big D" a few times an hour. The jingles still say "Good Time Rock & Roll" or just "DRC-FM." The pre-British Invasion musical content appears to be about a half dozen songs a day, all familiar monster hits like "Jailhouse Rock," "Tequila" and "That'll Be the Day." Certainly not the earthshaking change implied in the Courant article.
