BIG NEWS!!!! WRIX-FM 103.1 and WANS 1280 AM in Anderson flip formats!!!!!!!

I called and talked to someone today. They are going to go with the Good Times Oldies Feed from Cox over time. They say that they have been experimenting to see what listeners think. So far, the Oldies are winning and the format will all Oldies in a few weeks........
 
;) I agree! The Good Times Oldies feed is best! I am sure that they will go with that one!
 
Yes, I spoke with someone from WRIX again today. They are going to blend the Oldies feed in over time. Apparently, the owner likes a little a.c. on there, but they are blending Oldies in. They actually are using 3 Jones feeds right now!
 
I just found this station, WRIX today. I had ran across it before when it was (IMO) a mess. Too much going on, turned me off with all of the different hats it was wearing. But, after listening today, reading a bit on here, I'm hopeful. However, I refuse to get too excited because I was a HUGE CHARLIE FM fan and it didn't last...much to my disappointment.

I'm a little concerned with this "Variety" choice though. I do loooove variety, but from what I hear today, its not exactly. Seems too MY 102.5. If they are going to leap with a change, do it, go wild with a mix. Rock, R & B, Jazz, Oldies, Mainstream, Love songs, ect. Keep the listener guessing.

If this is not to be, then I prefer strictly oldies. I can't find that local anymore, have to listen online. Has anyone heard what they plan to keep playing?

3 different sat feeds for 3 different day parts...sounds like a mess. You gotta love some owners. That sounds like the horrible end of small time ownership. and management.

With quality programming like that the question is, how long until they flip again?
 
I just wonder with the current owners if they really know what they want. If you ever had talked with Matt Phillips, it was obvious that he loved country and the Matt and Bev show was a local hit. I am not saying that it was the best radio in the world, but for a locally owned and run station, it fit a niche in that particular market that probably will never be seen again.
 
WRIX-FM 103.1 would be very smart to flip to all Oldies VERY soon! The other formats there suck! The best would be the True Oldies Channel format! If they can`t get out of the Jones Radio contract, flip to the GTO Jones Foramt Fast! pEOPLE IN THIS AREA want oldies ON wrix!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They need to ditch that "This Radio Station" format crap FAST!!!!!!!! Call Them, Tell them you want OLDIES! The station Owner is Gary Bryant!!!! He will listen!!!
 
I think if you want it to be a true oldies station so badly, then why don't you see about leasing the station from him or seeing if you can do a LMA from him and then program it yourself and quit bitching to us about that station.
 
Goodtimes he has a very good point, No one would have a better feel for the right kind of oldies music format and how to present and push the station then someone who really knows and loves that kind of music. That person sounds like it would be you, maybe you should talk to the owner about leasing the station, if you don't whoelse will.
 
I could really make WRIX a great station. They have a signal that is heard up into the NC Mountains and all over Greenville. I know how good this station could be with the Oldies format. I would change the call letters to WANS-FM and play up on the thousands of Upstate people whp grew up with the old WANS FM. It is a no brainer. Why is the station owner running 3 different Jones feeds? Why doesn`t he switch to what everyone wants? I really don`t have the time to take this on. Hell, He listened to this board and switched his talk format to WANS AM 1280. Plea to WRIX/WANS station owner Gary Bryant: SWITCH Wrix FM 103 to ALL Oldies and watch your revenue increase!
 
If you think you could program it so well, then why don't you do it. We are tired of hearing about this especially since we know how well it has failed in the past in the upstate where country, adult contemporary and rock rule.

look at that...already spending money before revenue comes in. If you can make it a great station, take your resume over to him and tell him to hire you to make WANS a great station.

since he listens to this board, "Hey Gary...let me turn your Oldies station into a alt rocker and I ll make you as much money as your sales staff can sell."

First it's WGOG, now it's WANS/WRIX.. how many darn oldies stations do you want in the area?
 
I have long said that WRIX should change thje format from talk to Oldies. Station Owner Gary Bryant must have been reading this board because he flipped from talk to THREE different automated formats back in September. WRIX should be ALL Oldies. It is a mess right now.... I would settle for ONE good Oldies station on FM that reaches Anderson. I mentioned WGOG because Art Sutton (WGOG OWNER) was on this board last week saying that Cheap Channel should flip the Former Buzzard 96 to Oldies. However, the old Buzzard doesn`t have a very good signal and fails to reach many areas around Anderson. Art Sutton must like the True Oldies feed, he has been running it on WOOF AM 1000 out of Wahalla.

So, you think SWRIX changed formats because of what you said?

Just because Art Sutton said 96.7 should go oldies, doesnt mean WGOG should. Art has a good way of thinking about these things.. and it's very possible, that IF there was a target audience still around for oldies at ALL.. it would be where 96.7 is and not where WGOG is.

Art Sutton was the owner of 96.7 before it moved to Greenville too btw... just a useless fact.
