Big Tigger In The Morning, Rapper Lil Mo In The Afternoon @ 955 PGC

Well, the rumors are true. Big Tigger made the announcement. He didnt necessarily say he is moving to mornings, but he did say "Something big is coming to mornings at PGC". So thats basically giving it away. Meanwhile, Rapper Lil Mo, a DC native, will be moving to fill in afternoons at PGC.

Maybe they're going to plug in Big Boy out of L.A.?

I don't think so. Big Boy is losing alot of stations right now.

From Donnie Simpson to Big Boy ? If that happen, Russ Parr must be LOL .

Something BIG I'm thinking Big Boy. He may be losing some stations.

We'll See what happens

Citadel just canned Big Boy's syndication deal. All Big Boys stations are now going with Rickey Smiley, Live & Local and even Russ Parr. Something "BIG" coming to mornings simply means "BIG" Tigger!!!

Just posting this again to get a faster response, but like I said, I dont believe Anji Corley was let go. She was on air from 10am-2pm today in Michele Wright's place, and she will be on air again tomorrow in her place. Does anyone know if Michele Wright is finished with her show?

Sigh! Yeah Martin Mac, Michel Wright is out as the midday personality. It's official that whoever is really programming WPGC doesn't seem to have much of a clue what the hell they want to do with the station. Chasing after 18-34 exclusively isn't going to cume better for WPGC hence why sister station WVEE is so middle-of-the-road by play music that would attract an audience from 18-49 year olds.

Wow, thats sad. Michele has been there for a LONG time. I hope Michael Saunders knows what hes doing. My biggest problem is their musical playlist, but the programming is obviously WAY off. Just letting go of Michele Wright like that, wow. Apparently, dcrtv.com said Michele is going over to do middays across the hall at 94.7 Fresh FM. Now that is just weird, but hey, I guess she can do it. Apparently the only thing stopping Tigger from hopping on immediately in the morning is paycheck negotiations. DCRTV also says their looking for a female co-host to join Tigger in the mornings. But no official word yet, this is all from the grapevine.

Something is telling me that their are disputes within CBS to flip PGC to a CHR and compete with Hot 99.5 for higher ratings. I hope this is just me having paranoid thinking, because I really don't want PGC to go, but ever since Michael Saunders has hopped on, PGC has seemed like a lost cause.

On a good note however, Lil Mo did a wonderful job on her first day yesterday. She seemed so comfortable, like she had been in that slot for years, and listeners connected right off the bat! I cant wait to hear her today.

I honestly don't blame Michel for going across the hall as well. WPGC isn't that "everybody" station like it used to be; instead it has become what its critics have been saying for years, "a typical hip-hop station". The sad thing is when Radio NoOne's WKYS sounds more balanced than WPGC, but after looking at freakish, late-in-adding-hits, Churban-hybrid WJHM became under Michael Saunders I'm not surprised about the current status of WPGC.

I know the perfect solution, get rid of Michael Saunders. We need a PD that isn't afraid to add the hits. Instead of putting a song thats been out for 30+ weeks back into Power rotation, or spinning cuts 100+ times a week, we need a PD who isn't afraid to add the Rhythm tracks like Nothing On You by B.O.B., getting new music first like Love King by The-Dream, all while keeping their powers below 80 at least. I know PGC will probably never go back down to 50 spins a week on power, but 80 isn't asking of too much.

What I think is really sad is WKYS adding "Imma Be - Black Eyed Peas" while WPGC still has not touched it. WKYS is an Urban, not a Rhythmic, and their adding Rhythmic songs before WPGC is!! Really!?!? Come on now!

WPGC really needs a reality check. Im not saying they need to go Rhythmic, they can continue to play Urban music if they want to, but they seriously need to be taking lessons from WKYS, because WKYS music is LIGHTYEARS ahead of WPGC music at the moment.

PS, WJHM has the worst playlist Ive ever seen on a Rhythmic-hybrid. You can't have 'Lady Gaga - Bad Romance' coming on after 'Melanie Fiona - It Kills Me'.

WPGC is competing with Urban stations in DC. The station is heritage to the Arfican American community. The Rhythmic hits would do nothing but confuse listeners that would end up turning to WKYS. Here in ATL, CBS' V-103 doesn't play any Rhythmic songs neither. However, WPGC top 50 playlist does look out of place. The real question is how many African Americans or Urban music fans 18-34 actually have a PPM device in DC.

In Orlando, I wouldn't be suprised if Lady GaGa is played on 102 JAMZ. The direct competition is Cox owned POWER 95.3, a Rhythmic station. Orlando has a very heavy Hispanic population, which are POWER 95.3 listeners.

Every market is programmed differently, but believe all the shots aren't made locally.

Actually ShawtyBlackATL, WKYS is the heritage station for black folks in DC (from the 1970s starting as disco-playing WWRC on 93.9 position), whereas WPGC came in and stole the show from WKYS in the 1990s under the helm of Jay Stevens as a Urban Contemporary-leaning Rhythmic Crossover station. DC's black population is comparable to Atlanta's, but WPGC is a Rhythmic by a heritage and has remained so through the years with 2-3 songs under that format rubric by default in their power song list. Also DC black folks has been more liberal-minded at allowing its urban-oriented stations to play some rhythmic songs because of the influence of go-go music and its rendition playing their versions of those pop songs.

However, WPGC differentiated the Rhythmic rubric when it became very dayparted oriented with its playlist (like WVEE does now) with Urban Contemporary lean, thus competing with both Urban ACs WHUR & WMMJ, WKYS, and WIHT all at the same time during the 1990s. Since Stevens has moved on to Radio One, WPGC has bounced around from being very urban in 2007 through mid-2009 to Rhythmic hybrid since then. That's their problem, they don't know what to do these days without a strong PD operating the station and keeping the station's playlist from doing the "super" spinning of 100+ of the top songs that are practically recurrents and over reliance on throwbacks. They sound like WBHJ "95.7 Jamz" in Birmingham did under Mickey Johnson, and that's not going to cut it in a highly competitive PPM market like DC because WPGC was the trailblazer of the market now it's a ship without a captain...

CBS suits apparently have taken over the programming of WPGC and it's obvious. Local decisions does need to be made because they are screwing up at both formats their attempting to flank Urban and Rhythmic. If WKYS is adding Rhythmic songs faster than WPGC, yet there are some PROBLEMS.

^^^You couldn't have said it any better! That describes down to a T the leader that WPGC used to be and its history in the DC market.

Correction...Albie Dee was the guy who put WPGC on in 1987. He was the APD/MD for 11 years and thats when WPGC had its best ratings in it's history. WPGC was a Crosover station then and once Jay decided to go urban, thats when the slide began. WPGC Never got back the ratings once Albie Dee left. Do your homework. The numbers don't lie

That IS odd. Clear Channel Urbans All over are Spinning "Imma Be" albeit an edited version taking out the fast part. Hot97 was doing the same until last week when it suddenly got chopped from the playlist.

I did my homework. I'm familiar with Albie Dee being APD/MD from the beginning (circa 1987), but he left WPGC around 1997. Whereas, Jay Stevens came to WPGC as OPM/PD in the early 1991, and their highest ratings ever didn't occur until the mid 1990s after acquiring Donnie Simpson from WKYS. Not to take away from Albie Dee, but WPGC didn't began to actually slide in ratings until the 2000s.

Taking out the fast part? What does that sound like, do they just cut the song before it speeds up? That would only make it like 2:20, taking out half of the song.

Umm Jay Stevens walked into a #1 Radio station with a 10 share. He even got a lisence plate that says TENSHARE and as soon as he put it on his car the ratings began to slide. Albie Dee was the one who gave WPGC double digits ratings and once he left...and i stress, please do your homeowrk...the ratings have NEVER been the same.
