BigA, I mean Cumulus, Finally Almost Admits it Screwed Up Country Radio IN Nashville

Ok. A bit misleading. I can change that thread subject line above if need be.

As of now, jockless at WSM-FM, with no moniker. KDF moving some folks to 95.5. I guess they are just moving a few deck chairs around on the duo-Titanics and business as usual will continue.

Congrats to 105.9 for their on-going rise in popularity and 15-minute stop sets.

BigA and I have spent hours discussing these stations over the years, on here, if anyone wants the back story on me blaming him for all radio mistakes. :)

I cannot help but wonder if the WKHX Atlanta-based morning show, which is already nationally syndicated by Westwood One, will soon be heard on 103.3?

Both 103.3 and 95.5 have seen a string of unusually weak ratings books of late.

Looks like Big D & Bubba are relocating from 103.3 to 95.5.

It is unclear to me how the changes reported by Country Aircheck will help either station. Why move people who are earning mediocre ratings at 103.3 to 95.5?

This, so far, sounds like an exercise in rearranging the deck chairs and reducing budgets.

Used to be that 95.5 was the higher rated of the two. It's a 90s country format. 103.3 is currents. Then a new 90s country station came along.

I'm wondering if there might be a sale in the works.

ThePowerCow - I would say one look at their website line-up changes and you see how well this will go. Third grader took out the previous staff names and did not even use the same font. Literally like someone decided this on Monday morning and they just throw it all against the wall at 3PM yesterday. You probably are right. The will bring back The Wolf without Sebastian. 1.9 share.

Problem is Nashville ain't country, anymore. Well, a little. More tourists than locals. Audience is completely different now, than five years ago and having four FM signals fighting various versions of the same genre is futile. This is a lazy management issue or out of market decision maker(s) not knowing the reality that NOTHING will be a magic pill for these two stations and leaving local management with their hands tied in a zero win situation. Someone needs to really study the market today, add up all the numbers and see exactly where the money and immediate future of the right format will be. Because it will change in five more years.

The sixty-fifth rebrand of either station is not going to matter a drop after two books. It's sad that 106.7 can come in with Y'all and further wilt these two dying flowers.

And for BigA's love of good ole redneck rock n' roll coming back to KAY dee EUFFF, just note that the three KDF Rock tribute sites have more of a daily audience on Facebook, than the 100,000 watt perfect signal has in market #40. I'll leave it at that. Bring on Freebird for three days and free the frequency of 26 years of failure.

For reference for those who aren't aware of the "Moo 102" days of 102.9...

I remember that they went from "Moo 102" to "PC 103" WITHOUT a change in frequencies! Not sure how THAT ever happened, especially since they also owned and programmed 102.5 at the time, which I believe also had a translator on 102.1 back then.

It would appear they are just making some changes to 103-3. Jesse James has joined WKDF Nashville as Morning Host as reported in the trades this past Friday.
I would feel like the WSM Brand has more value than anything else they could do on 95.5 (that's in my opinion and definitely resonating with the Classic Country Crowd) however, Classic Country is slipping on a daily basis and once it goes this time, it will not return.

Good luck and our best to them whatever they do. Our industry needs them to be a success.

Sorry Tibbs4, looks like KDF is staying country:

The key part of the story is the 3rd paragraph: James will be reuniting with WKDF/WSM-FM Program Director Travis Daily, who originally brought James to Salt Lake City when he was programming KUBL. You know how that works. More people moving to your city. Just what you want.

Remember "Moo 102" with what looked like the Chick-Fil-A cow?
I LOVED Moo-102. Started listening when WWKO was only playing the format on weekends. Of course, I also liked early Lightning 100, the Phoenix, Alts 97.5 & 98.3, WMOT currently.

The most telling line in the Nashville Scene article was this: "Krysz says that personalities and features, not music, make the difference with listeners."
Music is the LEAST important ingredient on a music radio station. But maybe he's right. And i'm probably one of 4 people in the country who thinks that mindset is idiotic.
