Biggest mistakes ever made over the years on louisville radio...

This is just for fun and opinions will very but here i go

1) Flipping the wlrs calls from 102.3 to 105.1 dumb very dumb.They were legendary at 102.3 moving them was a dumb thing to do.Been better off with new calls then the old wlrs which i believe are cursed.

2)Blowing up hot 104. I know plenty of people that liked hot 104 alot better then B96.I know they said it was taking revenue away from b96 but i bet they were doing better with 104.3 then what they are now.What a waste of a frequency.

3)Flipping the fox from 100.5 to 93.1. I mean they were there for 12 years.They could have put louie at 93.1.I know the signal is not near as good as 100.5 but still it had history at 100.5
The suits love to do this it seems.

4)Making 790 a sports station.I enjoyed it as a talk station especially in the 90s when they had rush and allen combs back to back but they moved the talk to 1080 and i don't care much for 1080 they really don't have many good shows and that war room show in the morning is boring.

5)Now i was but 10 or so for this when the new kj 100 went from chr to adult contemporary as magic 100 Not very bright move in my opinion.Just think if they had stayed the new kj 100 they would still be new after 28 years lol

Now i have lived in quite a few cities and i will say we have some really good talent here in the ville.Tony
Vanetti on the fox.Terry meiners on whas,Djx morning show and the max morning show and duke and james bickers on wfpk and tommy lee and nicole on the max.Nikki puts as do everyone i mentioned here alot of herself in her show not all jocks seem to do that.And a few years ago mcgregor on wlrs at 105.1
Mike shannon and ben knight of djx can't for get them.

Ok here's some responses to yours and a few of mine:

1) WLRS... should've been blown up @ 102.3.. if they wanted to do rock on 105.. get a whole set of new calls and new slogan..obviously WLRS has been done and redone and done and redone.. let it die.

2.) HOT 104.. are you serious? Is there money to be made in that demo? They did by blowing up it up, stupid by letting the frequency do nothing.

3.) The FOX.. obviously this has been a GREAT move for Clear Channel.. have you seen the ratings for LOUIE? The station is booking TONS more than the fox ever did.. now they should just kill off the FOX from 93.1 and do something useful with that station... it had no real history at 1005.. no more than any other failing station has.

4.) 790am... useless no matter what.


Nikki-- no longer at the MAX.. happened last week, check out the site.. she's gone.

What about the mess CC Matthews made at Clear Channel in 1999? Sure WHKW was there to protect WAMZ .. but the big mistake was taking WQSH "SHE 931" and turning it into a "DJX LITE" by moving it to 98-9.. 98-9 now has kiss and country isn't on 931 anymore, so we all see how well that did.

New Country 1039 is a great station.. and if Cox put money into it with a staff and promotions it could really scare WAMZ.. but, they haven't and won't.. so once again 1039 remains nothing, as it is with anyother format that is on it!
 
1) Hot 104 was a success and I think that surprised Radio-One. I think it was smart to blow it up for money purposes. They should take WLRS off 104.3 asap and put gospel on the FM dial.

2) Their is no format to flip the FOX to. Although, I believe the FOX will never catch WLRS in the ratings again.

3) 790 is perfect for a sports station what are yall talking about?

4) 1570, the only locally owned radio station in Louisville, is now live and local from 7a-7p and is making MONEY as a sports station!!!

5) 98.9 KISS FM is a success b/c they came in and took audience away from DJX and are basically neck and neck in the ratings.

6) Who has the best classic rock station?

7) I don't know why WKJK has bad ratings with Dave Ramsey and Sean Hannity.

8 I think if WGTK had a local talk show M-F they could do some damage.

FM gospel on 104.3 would be a good thing.. and would allow Radio One to still own the urban audience in Louisville..

What do you mean there is nothing for the FOX to flip to? They could flip to ANYTHING, and if it's done right it will work... WVEZ has no compeition.. most large/medium markets survive with 2 soft a/c... other a/c that have been in the market didn't work because they were a wreck... Love 102.3.. give me a break!

What about FM talk, Rhy A/C, AAA... if ratings are poor enough and the station isn't making any money there is ALWAYS something to flip too.. get real!

And you don't know why KJK has bad ratings with Dave Ramsey? Because they suck.. duh!
 
Ok, first of all, they didn't "flip the calls" from WLRS 102.3 to 105.1. They blew up the format. Period. Point. Paragraph. It was DONE. Went all love songs on 102.3 and that was IT.

Considerable time elapsed before they "brought it back" on 105.1. Did they even own 105.1 when they killed LRS 102? Not sure about that, but, whatever... they weren't making money with LRS 102. It was a business decision, and a good one, to blow up LRS.

Second, none of you guys are mentioning a BIG one: 790 drops WAKY calls and becomes WVEZ-AM. What can top that as the stupidest thing ever done in Louisville radio?

Third...how about when WTFX dropped Bob and Tom for Howard Stern? That decision catapulted "SuperStar 1077" into the #1 classic rock station in town that it is today. And really did nothing for The Fox. THAT was stupid! (Even more stupid if TFX and QMF were co-owned back then. Were they? I don't remember.)

Now....putting Louie on 100.5 was smart. It never would have done crap on 93.1. The only way for it to truly succeed (which it did for awhile) was to put it on 100.5. And they didn't really lose much with the Fox, because it wasn't going anywhere anyway.
 
Technically you are right but still the calls went to 105.1 but seriously dude lrs should be blown up for good and if they keep the rock format reluanch it like they should have done when 105.1 flipped from religious programming to what it is today or should i say what it is become today.Lrs is just a really bad rock station not knowing what format they are.They ignore some of the alternative out there and try to be fox lite and they fail big time.oh yeah they beat the fox by 2 tenths of a point if you want to call that beating them.They sound very stale never try anything new.They were good up until a few years ago well like 02-03.I could have saved them a ton of money and told them lex and terry would not work here but they wasted over a year on them.Mo radio show is not bad but when they play music i switch it back to the fox with charlie and dwight.

You are right about waky calls.

Too Kelly is a word that nobody in Louisville radio, let alone Louisville wants to hear. How would that be funny?
 
Are you joking? "Fraud-bear"...there's a joke right there. He is a villain...which makes him a perfect candidate to be sharply criticized...but in a humorous way. Did you see his brother on television? It's the Family Feud!
 
I guess people are slooower in Kentucky. I give the audience a lot more credit than that though.

The Max has a website. It's called NTR...the more hits the more dough. (Non-traditional revenue)They also have appearances...an attractive female with a hot bod brings customers to remotes.

cmon, get with it!
