Biggest News Day of the Year Barry Young AWOL

You would think the guy would have a commitment to the community after all these years. Guess he just does not care. I would call in even if I was on vacation.

...as if that would have added anything to KFWhyEye's coverage (sfx-fake studio audience: clap, clap, clap, clap) Jim Sharpe is more than capable of filling in for The Nearly Bald One on a breaking news day. Plus Michelle was there to agree with everything Jim said, so what's the big deal?

I'm not sure what your criticism here is precisely. Barry announced he would be on vacation this week and he was, I'm not sure what you do for a living, but odds are if you're out and others can fill in for you then that's what happens. It's not as if it was crucial for Barry to be there.

I'm all for critiques, that's pretty much what goes on here, but the coverage was adequate, the station raised money for the firefighters' families (the 100 club) and whatnot. Barry doesn't work much these days, I guess that's a luxury you have when you're a multi-millionaire that is at the end of your talk show career... sounds pretty familiar in this business.

Station raising money was good.

I remember some on air people ended their vacations early and came into the station when California experienced major earthquakes. The good doctor is probably right about the clapping being inappropriate.

They Had Austin Hill sitting in on the 4th.

Probably made for better radio that a Best Of Chick Boss (no, the other one) lecturing listeners about how they're supposed to feel about a particular news story - because, c'mon, don't all listeners like being talked-down to like we're one of her kids? - with her co-host barely getting in a word edgewise. Not a fan of 550 at all, but at least they don't have one host ostensibly monopolizing their broadcast day at the expense of other talkers' on-air time.

"The biggest news day of the year"? How so?

I heard that from the side-chick. Giving a viewpoint is fine, but telling other people their viewpoint is "unacceptable" seems to be a little arrogant. (That photo could win a Pulitzer Prize??)

Heard Barry today and he said the story was "already covered" and he did not talk about it because other people would be doing it and have done it. He only mentioned it for about a minute or two. Guess it is not "the biggest news story in Arizona in the minds of many people. Time to move on I guess. clap clap. Doesn't fit in with the proven radio "schtick."
