Biggest party of the year...where are the national acts?

Savannah's St. Pat's day ranks #2 in the US & #3 in the world. So why aren't the local station groups leveraging this to bring national acts to town during this time? Country or Rock would be the logical choices.

Don't even get me started on the lack of rock representation at the Savannah Music Festival.....

The big acts are all passed out on a park bench somewhere in city market by now...half empty bottle of Jager in hand. ;D

Actually, I can see why major acts are not brought down here. Firstly, I have never paid a dime to party in Savannah on St. Patrick's Day...and I'd prefer to keep it that way. Adding a A-list band is NOT cheap at all. Unless Chatham County residents or businesses want to pay for it in taxes...which given how things are in the SE may not sit too pretty.

I mean, cordon off city market, grab a few major bands, and make it 18/21+ with a wristband to drink on River Street included in admission. You might get a few folks, but nothing worth noting and not enough to make the ticket price reasonable.

As for the Savannah Music Festival...despite living only a few blocks from the theatre, I never went. I only saw bluegrass-alterna-country, blues, jazz, and lots and lots and lots of classical on the yearly lineups.

So, I'd imagine they are skewing older with this festival. Don't get me wrong, seeing a band or two I like might convince me to buy a ticket. But that's it. There are a lot of folks in Savannah who absolutely love the music and culture that this festival brings. Just like I enjoy going to Bonnaroo or SxSW and seeing the music and culture there. D'ffrent strokes for d'ffrent folks, I reckon.

But for the record, I am completely in favor of a few nights of rock and/or good rap in Savannah!!!

Happy St. Patrick's Day everybody!

Seems important enough to upstate. Why dont you go to a bank and present a compelling, revenue generating, return on investment plan for bring major acts to Savannah? I'm sure they will listen.

Upstate, it really boils down to money. I know here at my workplace we do not want to bring in a big name act for an event such as St. Pats Day and have to charge an outrageous ticket price to the people. If we bring someone in, we want it to be on our dime and that is just not feasible in the current market. The artist do not care what kind or how big the festival is, they just want their money.

As far as the Music festival goes, the radio stations have no control over who is a part of that. I believe that is handled by SCAD or a committee.

I saw Neko Case last year at the Savannah Music Festival. She was great; her opening band, Crooked Fingers, was stellar as well.

If I was in Savannah presently, I'd have loved to have seen actress Zooey Deschanel's band She & Him. I understand that performance is one of the handful that have already sold out.

...and that's what it's all about to you, huh? Not positioning your station as THE go to source for all things St Pats (musically)? 500k ascend into Savannah & nothing can be done to convince a national act to come? Who said you had to charge admission? How about a percentage of sales (beer, t-shirts, etc)?

Keep thinking small time & small market. You fit right in.

Just stating that economics do play an important part in any type of promotion in today's radio world. If I owned the radio stations, then yes, I would do whatever it took to bring in a "national act" but would still have to do it within a reasonable budget. Savannah is not a major stop on too many national tours, so it can be difficult getting some to come in, even for a big event like the #2 St. Pats party in the nation.
