Bill Mercer, legendary North Texas broadcast Journalist and voice of World Class Championship Wrestling has died at 99.

Bill Mercer, a legend in Dallas-Fort Worth TV has died, Mercer was not only a reporter for KDFW (then KRLD-TV) when Lee Harvey Oswald was killed by Jack Ruby in the wake of John F. Kendedy's Assignation done by Oswald, but he would become the voice of the Dallas Wrestling Territory World Class Championship Wrestling, he called wrestling matches involving the first family of North Texas wrestling, the Von Erichs in the 1980s where he was there to witness the tragic curse of the Von Erichs which lead to the promotion's downfall at a time when Vince McMahon's WWF (now WWE) & Jim Crockett Promotions (aka NWA, later WCW after Ted Turner acquired it in the late 1980s, which went out of business in 2001 when WWE acquired it from then-AOL Time Warner) was slowly killing the territory system, he also was the voice of Dallas Cowboys football, Kansas City Chiefs during their time in Dallas as the Dallas Texans in the AFL, and the Texas Rangers as well as Chicago White Sox baseball as well as CBS Radio's coverage of the Cotton Bowl Classic for 7 years, he also called University of North Texas football games featuring Kevin Von Erich under his real name of Kevin Adkisson & Stone Cole Steve Austin under his real name of Steve Williams who both played at UNT. he was 99 years old.

He was the first play by play announcer for the Dallas Cowboys then on KLIf 1190. He also was the first play by play announcer for the Texas Rangers in 1972 with Don Drysdale, in 1974 Bill Mercer announced games for the Chicago White Sox (already said but, I filled in the dates). The only thing I can say is R.I.P. dear friend, you are going to missed as a friend and mentor.
