Bill Mercer on "The Hi-Fi Club" Sunday night!

M

MikeShannon914

Guest
Sunday, 6-9PM on KMNY-1360AM in DFW, or streaming at www.thehificlub.net.

This Sunday night (1/13,) our scheduled special guest is DFW radio/TV vet Bill Mercer! We'll talk wrestling, football, baseball and KVIL with him. Also on tap: An Elvis tribute (postponed from last Sunday due to tech problems) and the usual news, historic features, etc.

Speaking of Bill, I hope everyone has read his new book "Play By Play". It's a great read reviewing not only his longtime status as thee guru of "rasslin'", but his long tenure as the voice of the Dallas Cowboys in the 1960's and North Texas in the 70's and 80's. Bill has had an interesting career to say the least!
Beyond that, Bill is a terrific person, which is probably more important.

I'll be listening, since I grew up watching World Class Championship Wrestling, what a coup to get this guy mike! Good Job

We're looking forward to the show Mike! I've heard Bill several times over the years and i'm excited to hear him share some of his past experiences.

Yeah I don't have a perfect stream, it's just receiving off air and spitting out the net. Better than nothing I hope :)

great show guys :) If you need help with those CD players, holler! ;)

I have had a great pleasure of interviewing Bill Mercer twice in one week, I had him on when I was filling in for Kate Delany on her syndicated show, and then brough him on to the show that we produce on the internet for Sugar Baby's Barbecue-- what a gem of a gentleman, and a great story teller!

Congratulations Mike, and Ray and all the others involved! Great to have the living legend on the air!

Hope all is going well!

Just a thought!

WHEW...thanks, Radi0chic for bailing us out!!! Ray told me earlier in the day that he couldn't log onto it, and I tried it from home and had similar results. He was able to find something to reset in the back, so maybe that's what freed it up, but that wasn't until about 6:15. The stream is owned and controlled by BizRadio, so the MRBI people don't really have access to it or permission to mess with it.

And thanks, Phillip, Dave and the rest...Bill's a class act, and great to get those memories out there for all to enjoy. We'll work on keeping the flow going with guests, but we're not sure at the moment whether we're still a 3 hour show or down to one hour starting next Sunday. That will probably happen at some point, if not right now...keep checking the website www.thehificlub.net for updates.

I never could get the stream to play last night, and it still won't today. :( I don't think it's me since I have no problem streaming other stations I checked. Even though I am probably 10-12 miles to the NNE from the transmitter, I seem to be in a null and can barely pick it up at night off the air. I hope the folks in charge can get the stream playing reliably! Sounded like another interesting show.

Until theirs gets fixed I'll *try* to remember to change my stream to that every Sunday night, so if theirs doesn't work, try mine. - As long as that's ok with Mike anyway :)

It was a great show. Bill Mercer is "CLASS". It stuns me that he is no longer teaching classes at UNT. The reason? Politics. Students "are not allowed"to obtain as much "hands on" training with equipment as they once were allowed to. Sounds like the "corporate disease mentality" has spread to college broadcast classrooms. Bill fought hard against this rule last year and tried over last summer to get the powers that be to reconsider, finally he resigned and retired in frustration. Bill had taught there since 1966. What a way to say "thanks"

That is just unbelievable especially since computers are commonplace everywhere. Sounds to me like someone with little to no equipment experience, is overseeing the broadcast instruction at UNT. If that’s true, he/she needs to be dismissed.

Hey Mike, kudos on landing that greatness. Listen, I was traveling and missed the interview. I didn't see a downloadable podcast on the Web site. If there is anyway I can catch that, I would love it. Mercer is sheer greatness. When I was attending said UNT, he was mesmerizing with his knowledge of the market and tricks of the trade.

Thanks,
VDV

Mike,
If you all have anyway of streaming these out to a Podcast that would be great. I dont think you have anything out there where you can listen to past shows or not.

Great job Mike & Ray. It was fun being a listener last night! ;)
Wihsed I could've talked to Bill! I grew up watching him every Saturday Night!

Mike, remember the sponcer in the 70's? Kisinger's Auto Supply! I remember the jingle well! ;D

Radi0chic, you have my blessing to do so! If you don't mind doing that semi-regularly until the problem's fixed, could I put the link to it on the Hi-Fi site?

VDV and Philip, I've got all the Hi-Fi "episodes," old and new, all on CD or tape, ready for podcasting or just for casual downloading...BUT I can't afford to spend any more on webhosting. I'm still using Virtbiz; it's not the greatest deal in the world anymore, but it's DEPENDABLE. But to upload all those huge .mp3's, it'd take some serious space. And I'd have to delete the songs to keep away from paying royalties. Any suggestions on this, I'd like to hear them. I'm all for making them available on the web!

John, what a blast from the past...KISSINGER Auto Supply!!! (I might have guessed Monnig's or Leonard's if you hadn't mentioned Kissinger's!) And proof that you can indeed find ANYTHING on the internet...click here: http://www.knus99.com/kissingers.jpg

And thanks again to all for the good words!
