Bill Shiver, great South GA radio guy, who

was the voiceover person for "Wayne Pearson's Outdoor Trails" is back on radio on Facebook's
"Blog/Talk Radio" with a Sunday night call-in show at 8. Amazing but his voice hasn't changed a bit...one of the really great voices and a super nice guy. Good to hear him again.

Bill was my boss in the early 80's, and program director at WMGA Moultrie. He truly was the Big Voice In Deep Dixie. I keep up with him on Facebook now, and he broadcasts a weekly internet radio show called Red, White, and Truth. Look him up and give him a listen, he's still great! A solid old-school radio jock!

If you would like to have a memory of WMGA, go to the website of the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame and click on audio archive. In that collection of jingles from Georgia stations is a cut from the Big Country series of jingles that WMGA used for its Big Voice in Deep Dixie moniker. WMGA moved to 1130 in 1969 so I think those jingles are probably from that vintage.Bill's big voice was certainly a good fit for WMGA. Long time station manager and co-owner Roy Zess also had a big voice although he was small in stature. WMGA changed frequencies more than any other Georgia station. First 1370. In 1941, 1400. 1969 it went to 1130. In 1988, 580 and then back to 1130 when the last owners failed to ever file for a license for 580 and allowed the construction permit and program test authority for 580 expire. It was a sad day when that pioneer voice died but by the time it did it was a mere shadow of itself.

I have wondered if Jack Shiver was Bill's brother. Jack was a strong salesman in Moultrie. Talking about Bill's big voice, Art, let's remember he was also the long time voice of "Bible Study Time".

I agree, Bill Shiver definitely has the pipes!

"Bible Study Time" was a program I played for years and years. My first radio job was for a station that was owned by Dr. William R. Crews and his wife, Freda Crews. I never met Dr. Crews personally but did speak with him on the phone..but not until years later, after they had sold the station to another owner.
