Billboard revamps Christian Songs and Gospel Songs charts

Officially announced today--and effective with the next batch of charts--Billboard will make significant changes to its Christian Songs and Gospel Songs charts that are along the lines of what it's done to many of its other charts (including the Hot 100): First, the primary charts (which had been based only on radio airplay) will be replaced by new charts that also incorporate both digital-download sales and streaming data. Second, however, those airplay-only charts will continue, albeit as separate ones. Third, a new batch of streaming-based charts (Christian Streaming Songs and Gospel Streaming Songs) will also be launched. Finally, radio airplay from all BDS-monitored stations (regardless of genre/format) will be used--which may benefit, for example, "the many gospel titles which receive airplay on urban stations, especially during Sunday morning specialty programming".
