Biz Radio 1110 sounds pretty good for the first two days but....

Mr. Clanton (or anyone else at BizRadio reading here), KTEK is licensed to Alvin. The KTEK/Houston-Alvin ID you are using is illegal. Just thought I'd bring it to your attention.

The signal is ok, still spotty in some parts of Houston, but overall ok. I can't pick up Brent's show between 6:30 and 7A any longer from the house. That's not good. On the positive side they have finally adjusted their Katy Freeway billboard to promote 1110. And...the tag line "Get Rich" is great. Their stream has disappeared and hasn't worked since they switched signals in Houston. All typical new station problems that Clanton will hopefully fix soon.

Now they have to rebuild their audience that they spent the last 3 years building on 1320. That will no doubt take a lot of time (probably 6-12 months). Will Frishberg get the $7.5M back on his investors' money? Probably not anytime in the next 10 years unless he builds that multi-market network like he's bragged about for the last 3 years. That isn't happening either, but in just Houston the format will work and make a little money if sold and programmed properly.

Heard it yesterday as KTEK/Alvin-Houston and today as simply KTEK/Alvin. Thanks for the quick attention to the matter. Adguy, you won't be able to pick anything up between 6:30 and 7:00 from Biz Radio. KTEK's sign-on for the month of February is 7:00am. This was one of the items I had mentioned that would be troublesome for BizRadio at the new dial setting. Late sign-on and early sign-off. You gotta love these winter months if you are a daytimer.

Thier streaming is not working now. They seem to have a lot of glitches as they moved "down the dial". It's typical, but they should get it fixed asap as they try to recapture their casual listeners that will have to find them again.

I don't like the move at all !!

I can't hear driving in at 6am.

I was a morning listener but now I got nothin ...........

I hate H-town radio ......... :(

I can certainly see your point. This new "daytimer" status prevents them from signing on in Houston until 7AM in Feb, but this morning I got them on a shower radio at 6:45. I guess they're cheating a bit, but who cares.

They had no choice with regards to the move. The genius leader Dan Frishberg is not the sharpest stick in the pile in the media world. From what was stated on this board on a DFW thread months ago he blew his relationship with the owner of the former station 1320. In Houston the only station he could buy for the $7.5M he had was this Salem owned daytimer KTEK 1110. Most people in Houston, including myself, had never heard of this signal until now, but at least there's an outlet for the continuation of a business formatted station in Houston. Once they get the kinks out I'm sure it will be better and as spring approached they will be able to sign on earlier and by summer they will be on at 6AM. The downside is of course they'll have to start powering down earlier and up later as Fall and next winter approaches.

You're right, they were cheating. Beginning in March KTEK does have an active PSRA (pre-sunrise authority), allowing them to operate with reduced power from 6:00 AM local time to sunrise, but it's only 10 watts. That's barely worth the trouble. In April the limit goes up to 270, then 440 watts from May through July. Then it's back to sunrise sign-ons until next March. The real joke is their post-sunset authority, which allows them to operate from 15 to 45 minutes past sunset (April through August, depending on the month) with power ranging from two to five watts. Depending on how well the skywave is kicking in from Omaha, that might make it to the Wal-Mart parking lot in Alvin.

Is there going to be any effort by the new ownership to revive and rework the nighttime service proposal that was shelved a few years ago? I don't see why it couldn't happen. 1110 is already a mess at night; one more signal covering all that up won't hurt things. I haven't heard KFAB without co-channel interference since the 1970's.

:(

.... well I just heard Brent show moved to 9 am or 10 am.

so It does not matter to me when they come on now. I think they said Mike Norman took over mornings, I don't care for him at all. :(

.... such as life ....

Is Brent gone? What happened to their streaming? The new signal sucks! IMHO, Biz Radio is dead. When's the funeral? Maybe another group will start a new biz radio and they will do it right.

You sure condemned them fast and pronounced their death. Actually, KTEK has a good signal. Go look at it on Radio Locator dot com and see for yourself. Sometimes radio stations will have problems with their streams. Just because you click on and it's not there, you can't automatically say, "It's dead. It's over. Shovel the dirt on it."

In the car the signal is full of static all over town. There are spots where it's better than others, but overall not good. In the office, it cannot be picked up on a standard boom-box type radio. So in addition to the streaming being gone for now, the signal is not good enough to keep me tuned in.

There are very very few AM stations that can be heard in office buildings. Grab that knob and twist away.

Actually in my building, I pick up KTRH, KPRC and 1560 The Game quite well.

You didn't mention 1320. When you did listen to it for Biz radio, how did you receive it in your office building? You also mention 3, that would be considered a few. At least you have those 3 to make your listening selection.

What does it matter now. BizRadio has changed their lineup again to "Insomniac Theater". Where did Brent Clanton go? Who are the two new morning hosts at 8AM that can put bricks to sleep? No streaming precludes office listening. Once again Frishberg has pointed the plane at a 90 degree angle straight toward the ground.

What does it matter if someone can't pick it up in their office? It's not worth listening to for me and probably many others who don't even know that 1110 exists.

Remember 1320 was 5KW while 1110 is only 2.5KW

I wonder if 1110 can get permission to run with more power.
