Black Information Network Gets Fulltime Chicago Affiliate With Launch Of ‘BIN 640 AM.’

Have you listened to the programming? It's mostly a headline news format, at least that's the case with 1130 WDFN here in Detroit. The formatics here share some similarities with WWJ. (1130's audio levels are on the low side, I will add.)

Some listeners could conceivably do the things you've mentioned, but it won't be because of anything they've heard on BIN.

The sponsors are using BIN as a PR gimmick.

Are they? By that I mean, are any of the sponsors of BIN promoting their support for BIN as a proxy for supporting the black community, except on the airwaves of BIN itself?

I agree with you: the sponsors are unlikely to be getting a commercial benefit from the very low audience of BIN. But I also haven't seen "proud supporter of the Black Information Network" anywhere.

I do believe part of it is just PR, they only decided to invest into it and launch it during the events of 2020. If those events did not happen, I somewhat doubt this would exist. They didn't do squat during the events in St. Louis or any of the others after. The George Floyd incident is one where everybody finally had the attention of the news all day long. iHeart, and the businesses wanted to look good doing something. Good Karma did the same thing when they launched 101.7 The Truth in Milwaukee. It doesn't make money (All PSAs) Nobody listens to it. But it makes the business look like they are supporting a specific group of people. These same companies run programming on other stations that is directly counter to what they are trying to push off on BIN.

This however does not mean the product itself is bad. I have listened to BIN and WGKB. They are well programmed in a professional manner. The people who they hired to make it work are the ones who believe in what they are doing, and they give it their best. They are really the ones who really support the mission.
