Blackhawks/Bulls/White Sox to leave NBC Sports Chicago

I hope that NBC Sports can eliminate the RSN business and focus on the National Sports business. It could affect 4 NBA teams (Celtics, 76ers, Kings, and Warriors), 2 NHL teams (Sharks and Flyers) and 3 MLB teams (Phillies, Giants, and A's). SportsNet NY might be putting up for sale.

NBC Sports could focus on the NFL, Olympics, Golf, WWE, NASCAR, and the NBA (if they get it soon).

That's been the plan all along.

I can't speak for what might happen with the remaining NBC Sports-branded RSNs, but the portion of Sportsnet New York owned by Comcast can easily be acquired by Steve Cohen, the current owner of the Mets–if he chooses to do so, of course. I believe Charter Communications (dba Spectrum) also owns a piece of SNY.

Do the Wilpon’s want to sell.

Do the Wilpon’s want to sell.
You mean, "Do the WIPONS want to sell?"

Aside from the incorrect placement of the apostrophe S and the missing question mark (nothing personal, but I'm a stickler for proper use of punctuation), my answer is this: The Wilpons no longer own majority control of the team. To hold onto the network is a stubborn refusal to let go. But it's time for Fred and Jeff to move on.

Now, if Steve Cohen wanted no part of SNY that would be a different matter entirely. And, unless the Wilpons hold veto power, I don't see them standing in the way of Comcast and/or Charter selling off their pieces of SNY.

They still make money off the network. This is why it was not a part of the sale of the team.

That situation will have to be rectified in the future. It makes no logical sense for the former owners of the Mets to own the team's video outlet. It would be like any attempt to split MSG Network from the Garden, the Knicks and the Rangers, which would be downright silly.

If you're going to be That Guy on the board who parachutes in to criticize grammar (and please don't be That Guy), it's good form to make sure your own grammar is impeccable...
I was writing in the present tense, not the past tense (hence "mean", not "meant"). Nevertheless, point taken and message received.

Jerry selling rights to a Nashville based company is very telling. Anyone remember the white Sox long being rumored to relocate to Nashville? I don’t think mlb wants two teams in Chicago. I feel they only want two teams in New York. Manfred has no serious interest in expansion.

Isnt Comcast owning the Flyers in its home Philly market.
BigA's comment that NBCU is getting out of the RSN business is correct. As contracts come up for renewal, expect to see less being renewed by NBCU RSN's. Comcast is the parent company, but you'd be surprised how separate NBCU properties are.

As far as sports and media market definitions are concerned, yes they are.
And most definitely one Arte Moreno, the Angels owner. Seemingly everyone b**ches & moans about the Giants & Jets being called New York, yet they play in New Jersey, where's all that uproar from baseball fans mocking the Angels playing in Anaheim, but calling themselves Los Angeles, & that's worse being 30 miles away!!

Not happening White Sox leaving Chicago.

Never trust Jerry Reinsdorf. The Sox were literally 3 minutes from moving to St. Petersburg in 1987. Were it not for Gov. Jim Thompson, they would have been gone.

And that wasn't the first time. They were headed for Milwaukee in 1969, Seattle in 1975, and Denver in 1980.

Keep in mind that the production company mentioned in the OP doesn't own any TV stations in Nashville or the state of Tennessee. They just happen to be based there. The closest TV station is in Kentucky. But they also don't own anything anywhere near Chicago. That's why I say this is a crazy deal.
