Bob Shannon of WCBS-FM, New York Radio is dead after battling illness

Do we have any other sources on this? SNBC13.com has been reported as a fake website, and the only other sites reporting this don't list a primary source.

I'm further suspect because one doesn't "pass away suddenly after a long illness". At a minimum that's bad writing, even if it the gist turns out to be accurate.

R.I.P. Bob, you'll be missed, you're great beloved CBS-FM 101.1 of all time with his wife Connie Frances. Thank you for everything.

What @gr8oldies said. "Bob Shannon" has always been an airname for Don Bombard. And his wife was Connie EMPRESS. (Connie Frances was a 1950's era pop singer.) Is his real name ever mentioned?

I saw a death notice a couple of weeks ago for Martin Sheen. That turned out to be bogus too. At minimum, doing something like that is irresponsible, at worst it's maliciously cruel. I think some of these are coming out of Nigeria, or similar spam/scam/phishing generators in Africa, an attempt to gin up clicks in a hit-and-run fashion.

The 1950’s pop singer was Connie Francis (note spelling). Connie T. Empress is Bob/Don’s wife’s professional name; her real name is Connie Frances (note spelling).

I stand corrected, thanks.

Bob/Don was a very talented jock. His having to leave the job he loved due to failing health was a bitter irony.

Now that he's gone, can anyone state what medical condition he had that forced his retirement?

All due respect to the legendary old school top 40 jocks, but Bob Shannon might just be my all-time favorite New York DJ. His on-air style was solid proof that you could incorporate music history and trivia into your presentation while still being upbeat and entertaining.

We should respect Bob's family's privacy and not inquire about his ailment. It is their prerogative not to reveal it to the public.
With all due respect, I've been hearing some variation of that line for at least a dozen years as it relates to Bob. Getting ill is not shameful, and it doesn't require going into any level of detail to say "cancer", "heart disease", "fibromyalgia", "multiple sclerosis", "ALS", etc. Very high level, but at least his admirers and loyal listeners would have a clue what it was that cut his career off at the knees so abruptly. I don't think that is either disrespectful or any invasion of privacy.

I just asked Connie Shannon if there is a charity we could donate to in memory of Bob. She suggested Bideawee, the ASPCA, or any organization that deals with animals.

I grew up in the NYC metro area and have heard lots of radio and I will say that Bob Shannon was certainly my favorite DJ of all time. I got to work with Bob in New Jersey after CBS imploded it's CBS-FM 101.1 and made it a "jack" format. Bob and his wife Connie were certainly the most interesting people that I have ever met during my career in the radio business. Bob was always funny with a quick wit and Connie, the total sweetheart, was just as entertaining and charming. I was amazed seeing the live DJ show of Connie T Empress, The Empress of Soul, playing 45's of soul music. The feel that she has for the music and the depth of knowledge of music that the both of them had were amazing. What a great couple! Miss you Bob!
