My point is he didn't work his way up from the minors. Austin was his first job.

But they'd be crazy to give the host of the #1 morning show to a new kid.

The next Bobby Bones gets his break at a low rated station, for no money, and makes it into the #1 station in town. Not many people today are willing to work that hard for no money.
 
Remarkably, the KASE 101 morning show has had only THREE changes since it's inception:

1981-1998: Tom Allen
1998-2013: Bama Brown and Rob Mason
2013-20??: Bobby Bones and company
 
IIRC-- Bob Cole was partnered with Tom Allen for awhile before Cole moved over to KVET.
And didn't Mason & Dixon replace Tom Allen before Bama came over from KVET?

Yes to Cole; Mason & Dixon & Bama all hit the air at the same time. Bama was pulling mid-days on K-VET
when they moved him over to KASE. Dixon left the show a few years later.

Bobby started at the campus station at Henderson State then spent 4 years at KLAZ Hot Springs before getting the Austin gig.

His bio says he spent one week at the campus station before getting the job at KLAZ, where he worked while attending college.

In answer to the question: Where will the next Bobby Bones find work, the answer is the same kind of place as Bobby. Even now, college kids do intern work or part time work at local radio stations.
 
The KHFI bio on wiki needs more details of its AOR days and automated Super Rock and K98 days in the 1970s. And Dave Jarrott should be included there, too.

Anyone can edit those pages. If I knew more about KHFI I'd do it.
 
A few of Bobby's affiliates have already been teasing Elvis. So it's definitely gonna be Elvis coming on Monday. No doubt in my mind. Plus Elvis is a ratings winner in every market he enters. He is the CC CHR show being rolled out all over the country. I hear him on iheart radio and he has a compelling show. Plus he could go live. Kid Kraddick does a HotAC show so it won't be him. Let's not forget: It's not about being local as much as it is about quality content. CC is more about showcasing top notch talent and putting it on in more cities than paying less talented local people. This is what they're doing with Bobby. He's gonna be the national face of CC country brand little by little, city by city. It's all about saving money and the bottom line. We will see...

Nope...it's all about building a national brand that can be sold at top dollar to major national sponsors. Advertisers want the best CPM. Local radio doesn't do that any more. It's less about saving money than MAKING it.
 
I have to admit, I don't understand this move. For me, it seems as if it's a square peg in a round hole. However, as I type this, I remember that so much within the industry, and yes it's been that way for years, is watered down for mass consumption which makes it very possible for any talent i.e. musician, radio talent etc... to cross over. I wish BB and his crew the best of luck. I am willing to bet the KISS sales staff lost their s h i t when they were informed of this decision... and the KASE sales staff did a jig. However, I am glad that no talent lost their job, in Austin, due to this change. There are a lot of good people in that building.
