Bobby bones show moving from Austin to Nashville. Will become national.

If they're really going with syndication in the mornings on KHFI, they can KISS -- ha! -- the No. 1 ratings and revenue spots goodbye.

Not necessarily. Bobby Bones was syndicated. He just happened to be based in Austin. But a lot of these syndicated morning shows are doing extremely well. Steve Harvey is a huge hit around the country.

It's not easy to launch a new local show from scratch. I've done it a few times, and it can take years before it works. Don't get me wrong...they'll still have to win folks over too. But at least they've got the show part set.

I have to keep in mind this is CC we're talking about, but since they won't be paying the 6-figure morning show salaries anymore, it would be nice if they'd put in some local talent in other dayparts on KISS. 24 hours of voicetracking and syndication would be a waste of frequency space for the top station in town in a top-40 sized market.

They're just going to concede to Bones' new show on KASE, which figures to take over as #1. Where have JB and Sandy been placing in ratings over the years?

Don't be so quick in undermining Duran's potential. He's originally from Texas, has worked in Dallas and Austin and has a live interactive show. Listeners don't care where his studio is. They care about relevant, funny content and star power in the way of big guests. The same way Letterman, Jimmy Fallon and all the morning national TV shows originate from New York, and Ryan originates from Hollywood, it has zero bearing on ratings success. Funny is funny. And his female numbers are off the chart in just about every market Elvis gets on the air. And as one poster points out, CC is smart and going after the big bucks by building a national brand to attract national advertisers here. And as far as the local sales team is concerned, if they are good at their job, they'll be able to not only keep their current clients, but bring in even more revenue.

I guess the national emphasis will mean less time for local community causes. Duran's bio says he supports Rosie O'Donnell's Theater Kids. What about our theater kids? He fights poverty in NYC. What about fighting poverty in Austin?

I wondered the same thing, and discovered that the CC stations are very active in local charities, regardless of where their hosts are based. The stations donate money, time, space, and advertising to multiple local causes in just about every town I've checked. They often sponsor local job fairs, sponsor teams in the local charity races, and allow multiple non-profits to hold meetings in their buildings.

...but not throw the entire station behind it local on-air public service campaigns?

Not sure what you mean. As I said, there is on air time given to local public service campaigns.

Well, with all the layoffs in recent years, CC Austin certainly has plenty of room at its SoCo offices for community meetings. KHFI is now voicetracked all day; KPEZ is only live in the morning; KASE, KVET and the Zone are about 50/50.

Good point, Fred.

I have an even better idea....

Why don't Mr. Duran come to a City Council Meeting when a zoning case is involved regarding luxury apartments and town homes, or the time Austin Energy raised his rates? Where was Duran?

Then you don't have a current or accurate view on syndication The show coming in has gone #1 in many of it's markets

Does Jay Leno help charities in LA or in Iowa? The role of a Morning Show host is to entertain, not help every charity in every city. There are far too many great causes to help every one so people help ones that touch them personally if they even want to
