Boise's KDJQ 890 AM Up for Sale on Craigslist

Hello. If someone were interested in buying KDJQ, what advice would you give him or her about what to do with it? At that price (under a million) for a good daytime signal, is it possible to make money with that station? Thanks, Lisa

I don't know anything about the Boise market... but from the stations listed on Radio Locator covering the market, there don't appear to be many holes.

There are already two news-talk stations on AM, plus country, sports, and standards. Religion often works, but there are 3 AMs and 2 FMs (plus several translators) running some type of religious programming.

The station had been Spanish before it went off, but it looks like there are 2 Spanish stations on FM. I know Spanish is a language, not a format, so maybe there would be a Spanish-language format not already on the air that would be sellable.

I'm not sure the station would be very viable as a standalone. Maybe it would work if an existing station or cluster in Boise bought it,using their existing staff and facilities.

Boise appears to already have more AM stations than it really needs, plus a whole lot of FMs.

This station is basically a daytimer. It only has 250 watts nite power, uses a different site for day and nite, does not own any of it's transmitter sites, and the lease arrangement for the nite site limits the formats to only a couple choices. Sure takes away its value

Last I heard he owned the daytime site. He first tried to have the night site from the day location but someone screwed up as there was too much signal towards Class A KBBI, Homer, AK. Couldn't get enough signal over Meridian (city of license) from there thus the last minute deal for a night site near Meridian.

There are 4 Mexican stations that run the gamut from talk to traditional. 1260, 99.5, 101.9 & 106.3 .

Can't wait to see what 97.3 Vail, OR (got a construction permit now) and 101.1 Parma, ID (moving from McCall) are going to do.

Then there's the move of KQFC to 102.7, KSAS to 103.5, and a new station on 97.7 Melba, ID. .

Did I mention the couple dozen other applications for NEW AM's in the valley ranging from 250 watts to 50 KW on (partial list) 540, 820, 830, 990, 1010, 1020, 1030, 1210, 1230, 1400, 1430, 1550, 1560, 1580, 1590. FCC's wading through that mess now. Whew...

I think the whole basis of this stations impending sale is building a new, properly located transmitter site. From what I have heard, KDJQ, as apart of their signal tower usage agreement with Citadel/KTIK, apparently can only run Spanish or Oldies to be able to continue to lease the same tower and building where KTIK's transmitter is also broadcasting. That narrows the possibility of creating revenue for a format on KDJQ to almost nothing.

I think this also might be a power-play to shut down KDJQ to force the owner to sell his station to Citadel so they could relocate KTIK's programming down to 890am on the dial and broadcast from the current transmitter site. From there, Citadel might be able to find a better location and building to house KDJQ's transmitter in.

Is there a decent Americana/A3 station in the area (didn't see one in any of the posted lists)? Take a look at and listen to what does very well in the SF Bay Area on AM (also FMs around Northern Ca) at KPIG.com. Think it would fly in Boise, even over a soft power AM? Hell, I'd buy it in a second taking that format, if I had the transaction expertise and wherewithal. Which I don't.

As of late last week, KDJQ is back on the air, playing Christmas music for the time being. Just automation and music. More info to come soon.

890 is going to be Catholic radio, tested under new calls early June and planned to be running by now but current owner decided to hold it seems until the new arrangments are done and over and right.

Sounds like the deal with Salt & Light radio is in question.

KDJQ has returned to air with the Solid Gold Oldies. Same Liners and Jingles from the past.

Anyone else have information about KDJQ??
