Bongino tapped for FBI Deputy Director

Bongino is threatening to quit the FBI. So he may return to radio soon.

Then again, he threatened to quit his talk show several times too.

Here is the assignment Bongino got before he talked about leaving the FBI. It looks like he is being ordered to investigate the former Directors of the CIA and FBI over stuff that took place when Trump was president the first time around.

FBI Director Kash Patel pledged at his confirmation hearing that the bureau would not look backward, but the Trump administration’s fresh scrutiny of the Russia investigation has brought back into focus a years-old inquiry that continues to infuriate the Republican president.

The Justice Department appeared to acknowledge in an unusual statement this week the existence of investigations into two central players from that saga, former FBI Director James Comey and former CIA Director John Brennan, amid a new report revisiting a 2017 intelligence community assessment on Russian election interference.

That the Russia investigation, which shadowed President Donald Trump through his first term, would resurface is hardly surprising given Trump’s lingering ire over the inquiry and because longtime allies, including Patel and current CIA Director John Ratcliffe, now lead the same agencies whose actions they once lambasted. Whether anything new will be found is unclear in light of the numerous prior reviews on the subject, but Trump has long called for investigations into Comey and Brennan, and Patel — in a book he authored before becoming director— placed them on a list of “members of the Executive Branch Deep State” deserving of derision.

A withering 115-page report from a group of current and former federal agents has blasted the FBI under Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino, saying it has been a “circus” and “all f*cked up” under their leadership.

Amid the bombshell revelations comes this nugget found on page 52 which, in spite of the FBI employees' stated shock, should come as no shock at all to anyone who ever listened to Bongino's radio show or saw him on FOX News:

The FBI employee said that while addressing FBI employees during a visit to an FBI Field Office in the Western United States, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino said, "The truth is for chumps."

The FBI employee said he/she was shocked, offended, and appalled that the Deputy Director of the FBI would make such a statement.

ALPHA 47 said other FBI employees corroborated the FBI employee's original report and shared with ALPHA 47 that they were also shocked.

The document, first reported by the NY Post and subsequently covered in detail by several others, can be read in its entirety here.

"Truth is for chumps."

I am quite sure that Bongino's current ultimate boss agrees with that sentiment.

Was Cumulus keeping his seat warm?

My take is that Bongino kept his own seat warm. There was a complicated series of moves made in putting his podcast and production company in the hands of his wife. Then Cumulus announced a replacement host for the radio show: Vince Coglianese.

This happened in March of 2025. So it's possible that Vince will continue to host until February.

The president confirms that Bongino wants to "go back to his show."

Who could blame him??? As I often say, fiction is a lot more fun than facts. Bongino created a lot of fiction about the pipe bomber being part of antifa. Then they caught him, and it turns out he's not. That can be very disconcerting for someone who lives in the land of oz. I would much rather do a radio show than have to work in this administration.

Daily Kos (from other news sources) was reporting a couple of months back that Mr. Bongino had fallen out of favor with the Trump Administration because he (Mr. Bongino) supported the releasing of all of the Jeffrey Epstein files when the administration was dead set against it.

That would make sense, since Bongino made a big deal about it on his radio show before joining the government.

There is also some reporting that his boss, Mr. Patel, is likely to follow very soon.

This is what happens when you have government run by entertainers. They realize just how much better it is to be in entertainment.

Below is what I consider to be a great quote by Mr. Bongino taken from the above-linked article:

Asked by Sean Hannity about a conspiracy he promoted on his podcast, Bongino said, “I was paid in the past, Sean, for my opinions,” adding, “but that's
not what I'm paid for now. I'm paid to be your deputy director, and we base investigations on facts.”

I have to ask. How many conspiracy theorists are being paid to do this kind of work, who is paying them, and why.

Lots of them. They're paid by lots of people. His opinions attract an audience, and advertisers want to reach an audience. The first amendment allows him the freedom to say all kinds of things. There is no fairness doctrine for radio, so the stations don't have to provide the other side.

Does anyone know how Vince's show is doing in the ratings? If he has boosted the ratings for that slot they might be smart to keep him and find something else for Bongino. I like Vince but I have to admit I prefer Derrick Hunter in Vince's old afternoon slot. He's interesting and a bit calmer.

It depends on what deal they made when Bongino left. And if he really wants to do the work of a daily show when the real cash cow is the podcast.

From what I'm reading, Bongino knew the government gig was short term. So I imagine plans were made for some kind of return.

Right now it seems like Cumulus is looking to cut costs for all their shows. So they may not be able to afford Bongino anymore.

I think you are misreading his statement. He said that he was "paid" but he did not mean by conspiracy theorists, but by a radio network that prospered when controversy was stirred up. He was paid by the network, not the theorists.

If I remember correctly his podcast was also part of the Cumulus Podcast Network, and they mentioned they took a huge financial hit when he left.
