"Boston" Herald Treats Pirate FM Like Real Station

Have seen sites like the one about Boston area jazz stations treat Touch 106.1 like it's legit. Some papers like the Globe or Phoenix, Weekly Dig, etc. prob do the same though the Globe did do an article a couple yrs back about how Touch 106.1 while serving the community was definitely not licensed.

As for 99.7, that's mighty close to Lowell's Best Classical Music Station (that's where they're
licensed to, but Listeners Like You who enjoy "WGBH All Classical" might not be able to get 99.5
so clearly if you live close to the pirate! If you're up in the Merrimack Valley no problem, as their
stick's in Andover, but if you're close to Mattapan or Dorchester wherever this pirate's antenna is
it might not be so easy. If I were the tote bag people on Guest St., I'd raise a ruckus.
(btw I actually recorded 45 min or so of WGBH All Classical the other night while at work, to
send to a tape trader in Calif. It comes in very well in N. Reading. I actually enjoyed some of
the classical music for a change, though I still say roll over Beethoven, dig to the rhythm
and blues.)

Aside from radio geeks like us, does the average Joe Q. Public know whether or not their favorite radio station is a real station or a pirate station?

Nope. And apparently neither do newspaper reporters! ::)

I suppose it's only fair that the Herald treats these pirates like real radio stations, even though they aren't. After all, the stations probably treat the Herald like it's a real newspaper. ;D

Most have no idea. Neither do our officials, as Governor Patrick and Mayor Menino have both appeared on at least a couple of Boston's pirate stations.
